Usually Amazon only asks for a code if you are on a computer that they perceive as unknown (to Amazon).
That's a fact. They hit me up most every time I log in as I use VPNs that rotate IP addresses every few hours on all my devices. It's the price I happily pay for my virtual anonymity.
That seems to be a sometimes thing with many websites, and I hate it. It's never happened to me with Amazon, though.
I wanted to pay for a $50 purchase on my Lowe's CC, and they wanted a security check, but they weren't able to complete it. Ridiculous.
Same thing happened to me. I tried to send a message that I wanted to stay with my existing password. No way to get message through. So, just changed my password per their request and all is now OK. This morning I got an email from Amazon notifying me that, "per my request", they had changed my password.
Call them. They are most helpful.

Huh??? I get in with my user name and password, no code. And my wife can log in the same way and our daughter at medical school in Virginia also uses my account with no problem and no sign-in code.
My wife and I have no problems either. Have you had a past dispute or something that makes them question who is trying to log in?

I am/was a big fan of Amazon but at the moment I am locked out. Why? They have switched to a *&^ security scheme where they have to send you a security code in order to login. I am not getting the code but don't know why. When I click on the "Help" on the security screen, it only has the usual resets for password or you forgot your username. If I get into Amazon and try to do anything, it goes back to the security screen. And there is no method I can find to send them a message about the problem.
Buh Bye, Amazon!

I do not experience that at all. I just checked and was able to login in 1 second. Are you a Prime member?
Sorry for your frustration.
Mark
Adding to my previous post, you will be asked for additional security items if you log in using a VPN or in Private Mode in may browser.
The very short version is that, for whatever reason, you are not recognized as your usual Amazon-using "self".
It seems to be par for the course at the moment on many sites who seemed to be obsessed with inventing even more hoops to jump through in the name of cyber security. Amazon and Paypal are driving me crazy with this unnecessary nonsense.

One should not blame their inabilities on others.
Well you're talking to someone who has spent the last 60 years working with computers, room-sized to micro and helped send a man to the moon. So I guess it's all my fault and I'm too dumb to own a computer.
Here are two numbers that I have used to contact Amazon: 888-280-4331 & 888-280-3321
Hopefully, someone there will be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction.

Sorry for your troubles. I have no problems with log in.
In the 1960's my family used to vacation in Bellaire, MI. We stayed at some cottages owned by the Vestal's who I am sure are long gone. Lot's of good fishing stories.
I have never had to get a code for Amazon. I just ordered this weekend. I have never heard of such a thing.

Were you, as someone else suggested, using a computer or device which you hadn't used with Amazon before?

Yup, same here. No need for sign-in code
