Correct - and my post was surely tongue-in-cheek. Perhaps the humour was lost. I have the greatest respect for America and Americans (and Marines).

Thanks. Just learned something new today.

On the other hand, there is such deep suspicion about vaccines from the left and the right, that there is as yet a sizable # of people who are saying they won't take the shots. *Sigh*. It seems that every bit of dis-information strikes a chord with someone.
We all need this @#$%$ pandemic to end, people.

I also learned something new! In the U.S. I believe we heard that phrase mostly in movies and it had a different meaning. The Marines were portrayed as quick with their fists so if someone said something offensive they would be told to "Tell that to the Marines!" as it would probably result in a fat lip!

Where I come from there is also a saying - "Derby born, Derby bred, Strong in arm, weak in head"

Is it not strange that Germany and Norway find a problem in a vaccine they hardly use where as in the UK who designed the vaccine and used it 28 million times there has been no problem.
Perhaps it is sour grapes they did not design the vaccine, I only believe what the UK medical authorities say about anything medical especially as vivid is soaring in Germany.

I've seen news reports stating that the real reason for Europe's response is to have someone else to blame for their woefully slow rollout of vaccinations, and ensuing third wave of pandemic. Then, they stopped blaming AstraZeneca when it dawned on them that they had no other vaccine option.

Brief history of the phrase:
1. originally British Navy, sailors saying that the Royal Marines would believe your story but the sailors were too smart to believe it.

2. WWI came along and posters went up in the UK about atrocities etc. and "Tell it to the Marines" now meant tell them and they will break things and kill the perpetrators until the problem is gone.

3. The US picked up that second meaning, especially in WW II when President Roosevelt used the phrase in relation to things the Japanese military did.

4. When I was a kid in Kentucky that is the way it was used - Tell the Marines and they will take care of it.

Well that proves it, since you had no complications the science must be wrong! I realize that some people rather trust the politicians than the scientists, but for those who might actually be interested, the independent reports of two non-British scientific groups has also recently been described in (yes an American scientific journal), the AAAS. If you actually read the article, the type of blood clot that patients receiving the Astra Zeneca vaccine had (due to antibodies to platelets, a cell involved in clotting), is distinct from the kind you get from sitting in a plane, etc. Yes, the percentage is very low, and one can argue that the side effects and/or possibility of dying from COVID is higher than the risks posed by this particular vaccine. However this can vary depending on age, etc. So for those who prefer being "educated" this is a another recent article on the scientists findings (all very preliminary):

I think that by pausing the vaccine and spreading fear and doubt, the EU did tremendous harm to the vaccination effort. The effect may be that thousands will die so that a handful could live.

Yep, as I said in the original post, it was a "tough" decision for officials to make. However as one official is quoted in the article above: " Officials had little choice given the severity of the reactions. In communicating about vaccine or drug safety, he says, “there is nothing worse than trying to sweep things under the rug.”
Luckily one has choice in some countries as to the vaccine one receives.

And of course this is the perfect forum to gain advice about medical issues.
Usually to late.
Try more reliable sources like Facebook and Twitter.
