Thanks for reply. In recent postings I tried to clarify my mistaken rushed orig msg a # of times in my responses to people & in my own follow up post:
I should have originally asked if I should use rechargeables or regular 'Duracell' type batteries…
A few have weighed in w/advice & what turned out to best was to contact Sekonic tech suppt.
They gave me an unequivocal 'Use alkalines' - also turns out that the one issue I have w/this gr8 device (love it, feels like a really good build, NOT flimsy at all, has an amazing feature set, well implemented & nice customizabilty) is that it didn't come w/a User Manual & the need for it, while it should be obvious to all, it's download URL wasn't mentioned in the fold-out Startup Guide until the end; & since this is a robust & feature-rich device, well thought out features & implementation… I think that mention of which batteries should have been made more noticeably & right in the beginning in Startup Guide if Sekonic is making the point "no rechargeables".
Techy type of fotogs will give an initial look for critical warnings & then dive in for hands on familiarization; then go more into docs as needed.
I was a bit surprised that the recommendation of battery type 'no rechargeables' was only in the not-included-in-the-box UM. I feel it should've been mentioned in the printed Startup Guide that was included…
Bottom line on this, I found the Startup Guide to be quite helpful in terms of being a well marked out road map, an intro to how to find what re: buttons & how to use them for the robust, involved features… I got so busy caught up in trying to familiarize myself w/buttons & how they control featuress (easy, straighforward layout & menuing, & better than other 'deep' devices I've seen) that I DIDN'T get to UM that 1st day.
Nobody should get me wrong, that one little aspect of battery recommendation .not being in the in-the-box Startup Guide is quite trivial compared to the feature rich, well thought out implementation, design, & customizability… all built on a great Sekonic meter history… there is a good reason the Godox version of the Transmitter is so much in demand… & the fact that the L858 handles metering HSS is so welcome.
Quote Page 1 of the Quick Start Guide
"* Batteries (two AA, Alkaline and manganese batteries are recommended)
are not included in the package. Please obtain these separately"
Get the paramedics! I can't seem to gettmy foot out of my mouth!
Only defense, I was so excited to finally have a Godox X-mitter for this Sekonic… I held off on buying one & having a stimulus check in the picture made it easier to spend, so good timing Sekonic!
Bebu, thanks for your input. It seems either in my excitement I misplaced the Quick Start Guide, or I didn't get one.
I .did. get a Speedmaster L-858D L-858D-U _Startup Guide_ & on page 1 it lists in the 3d bullet point: "Batteries are not included in the package. Please obtain these separately".
Maybe the kit bundle w/the newly added Godox Transmitter has a diff docs package… I sny this bc I used to teach computer networking & a bit of a geek, I would never throw out or carelessly lose included instructions… but I am human…
I appreciate the help of people replying on this forum.

Have never had the slightest problem with Chinese batteries.

I don't and because of that I am aware that many Duracell and Energizer batteries are made in China. But seriously I don't think Chinese made batteries are worse quality and they are not less expensive either.
I buy alkalines on eBay in bulk for 31 cents to 37 cents each. I buy 100 at a time and they are Duracell or Energizer with decent shelf life. Just make sure that your vendor has a 99% or higher score.
