I am not completely sure but it uses 2 double A batteries. Perhaps contact Sekonic directly. I don’t have the number conveniently.

I guess it depends on what brand you like.
I use Duracells for all my needs.

I always use lithiums for such low drain applications. They have enormous shelf life, and I have never seen dead ones ever leak and corrode.

Lithiums cost 4x yet in high drain barely delivery 2X the life. IOW, not for speed lights, LED panels, etc. But in low drain devices they pretty much break even vs alkaline, plus they’re safer leakage-wise.

I meant regular AA's or rechargeables.

I know that it is best to use 'regular' Duracell or whatever, for many / most hotshoe mounted flash controlling radio tranceivers; but not sure if the same holds true w/the Sekonic Speedmaster L858D U RTGX, since a major feature is using the transceiver to trigger flashes so that it can measure the flash's output…

I heard of performance probs for flash controllers that use rechargeable batteries… I wanted to know which is best to use for my meter. Thanks in advance, Eli

Thanks, I just heard that the lithium cells have irregular output & I measuring flash output, I figure it may make a difference; & thanks fbr the input on low drain insight.

Sorry to all I wasn't clear abt alkaline vs. lithium…

Eli

The meter is a low drain device and rechargeable is definitely a no as rechargeable AA has high self discharge rate. The voltage difference between batteries shouldn't affect the meter accuracy.

Sorry, I shoulod have said regular batteries - LIKE Duracell, or rechargeables… bc rechargeables have a reputation of not being the best choice for lighting controller- transceiver devices. My bad. That's what I get for dashing off the bus & then dashing off my posting w/out proofing what I wrote.

It's best to check the manual as to what type of batteries to use. As an example, I'm using a Cybersense Remote for my Buff Einsteins and you can choose between Alkaline or Ni-MH in the menu.

I always liked nickel cadmium in flash units. They provided very high current levels and very fast recycle times. Hard to find now, though, although Batteries Plus usually still has them. Nickel metal hydride are OK. The disposable lithium AAs can be iffy in flash units...not enough current for most of them, so recycling can be slow if you are working anywhere near full power. Alkalines are OK, but I can't afford them any more. And if they leak, which sometimes happens without warning, they can ruin a flash unit pretty quickly.

To All: Took the advice to contact Sekonic T.S. & got their answer- strong reaction to question- "use alkalines".

Have you thought about rechargeable batteries?
