Your response to the OP put a big smile on my face. My husband is very supportive of my hobby. Pre-Covid, we travelled extensively and he plans all of our trips. He always makes sure I can get as much of my fill of photography as is humanly possible. Like your husband, mine is "not a photographer" either. I actually refer to him as "Mr. Point & Shoot". Long story short - one of HIS photos from our trip to Africa took "Best of Show" in the professionally judged part of our photography club's contest. It also took 1st place. Two of his other shots took 2nd and 3rd. One in the professionally judged section and the other in the members section. Only 1 of my shots placed - second place in the professionally judged part. I'm headed back alone to Africa in 2022 on a photography tour. Maybe I should just take a P&S and my Sony RX10 iv so I'll have room in my luggage for some beautifully carved animals done by the locals.

You made me laugh out loud.

Just kidding!

But, seriously, have many of the hoggers experienced marriage difficulties as a result of their hobby?

At first, my husband was NOT happy that I got so "back into photography" when we retired nine years ago. He couldn't understand why I needed (not just wanted) a DSLR. He now realizes that my hobby brings me great joy and peace - I do lots of bird and wildlife photography in rather remote places when we travel. He plans all of our trips and makes sure that I will be able to be "where I need to be when I need to be" when it comes to my favorite subjects. He also makes sure that he gets his fill of his interests - old buildings, cathedrals, and castles. How he consistently manages to find castles in remote areas with colonies of nesting birds I don't know, but he does it! During our Covid-induced isolation, he's even gone out with me on a few day trips and has actually enjoyed the experience. As long as I let him know up front that if he asks even one time "how much longer until you're done playing with your camera" that I'll drown him in the nearest tidal pool, we're good to go. I got a couple of good ones - husband & camera!

Happy I could. We could all use more laughs and smiles these days.

OK now, but it started out bad. When we first got married we took our honeymoon to Europe & a cruise to the Greek Islands. I was taking a lot of pictures along the way and was not paying enough attention to her. Came to the point where I almost threw my camera & lenses into the Mediterranean. Luckily, I came to my senses.

Seven kids and 42 years later, we're doing fine. She buys material & quilt stuff & I get what I need for photography. When we travel, we spend time in quilt shops & scenic areas.

I sold many of my older lenses to help with the cost of my R5. Great camera is worth the cost to me.

The year; 2012. The event; 9th grade daughter made Varsity Volleyball Team. The decision; whether to upgrade from a Nikon 300 (I was sort of into photography) to a Canon 1Dx. Sports, (low light, fast action,) became the new challenge to shoot. I jumped full in. Who knew sports photography was one of the most, if not the most, expensive to shoot? Well, I do now! Never looked back. Today, I shoot college football and basketball. My wife has been nothing but supportive and enjoys the memories captured from many family trips and our children’s’ sporting events. For me, shooting sports is the ultimate release from an otherwise stressful career.

I enjoy the hobby of insect macro photography and My Better Half simply gives me "The Look" when she sees me coming into the house with new specimens. Of course then I have the lectures of how I could have avoided all of the chigger bites when she tells me to 'stop scratching them' for it will only make them itch more.

Of course the worse interlude we have is when I ask her to check those hidden areas of my body for ticks. There are some things that should simply go unseen even by a spouse.

I bought the R5 over two months ago after waiting for weeks. Now, I'm waiting for the new RF 28-70 lens ... Agghhhh. Hate waiting.
On the wife issue ... my only problem is when she sees the rare boudoir type photo. I never show her but one client posted her pic online ...

No; but my kids are having fits at my spending their inheritance.

I'm with you Regis. I did the same thing...sold older bodies and most of my lenses. Love the r5! And no husband anymore to worry about what I spend. :-)

Actually, my photography improved our marriage. She likes travel and I gave her a Canon set of body and lenses and she often gets an image that I wish I had shot. The pandemic has seriously restricted our travel this year but we are looking ahead to getting some great images in the New Year. And planning for that has been fun.
