I was going to make a purchase with B&H, so I tried to apply for the PayBoo card. I was told I had to make a video with a smart phone or tablet to get the card. I don't have either. I have a laptop with a webcam, but they won't take that. I've been applying for credit cards all my life and I never had to make a video. B&H says that's the bank's policy.

That is just plain bizarre. What do they want you to video and WHY?!?? I've had the PayBoo card for well over a year and use it every time I make a purchase from B&H. When I applied, I simply filled out a form online via a link to Synchrony Bank in the B&H website. No video required.

Something to do with anti-fraud procedures. I guess it has something to do with identifying who is opening the account. So far two people here have said they got the card without the video requirement, so I have no idea what the criteria was for who they require it from. The person I talked to at B&H knew about it, but said it was up to the bank.

Make the video on a laptop and send it in.

I’m not sure what you mean. A few months ago, I purchased a lens. While at the register (I’m there so often I should be an employee) the clerk recognized me, we chatted and she asked me if I wanted Payboo. She explained what it was and no problem. A few minutes later I saved a boatload of cash. Now since you are in San Francisco, I don’t expect you to come to New York City. Try calling and speaking to someone in the purchasing department.
Also you could have purchased the item and paid the tax. Open up a Payboo account and you would be refunded the extra money.
I never heard of making a video from a phone or tablet. They may have changed the policy but I’m not sure

I got a Payboo card just a couple of weeks ago, I did not have to have a video. I find that Synchrony bank is hard to work with. It took me two tries to get the card approved and my credit score is 830! I got part of my order charged to the card as the rest was backordered. When the backorder came in, the card was declined! Not over the credit limit and I had not even received the bill for the first $300. Go figure! Shredded the card!

I have the PayBoo card and I didn't have to do any of that. I got the card probably 3 or 4 months ago so the approval process must have changed since then.

I got it when it was first announced. Was going to use it the first time, then saw making a payment was convoluted, and of course if you miss it, ..... Never used it, they cancelled me after about a year, no notice from them, saw it on my credit report.

Don't see how making a payment is "convoluted". I find it to be very straight forward.

I already said the bank said they wouldn't take a laptop video.

It won't do you much good in Nashville, but I save 8% on every purchase since I live in NY.

What did you have to make a video of?

I have already answered that question a couple times. It's a video of myself, for something to do with potential fraud. But it must be something about me in particular they are suspicious of, since several others have gotten the card without the video.

I will reach out to my son-in-law who works for Synchrony Bank which issues the card.
