Why do you take photographs?
In your own words why do you take photographs?

Before I answer, I have a question. If I say, "Because I want to" am I going to get my head handed to me on a plate like the last time this question was asked?
Trying to capture moments. Birds flying, flowers blooming, grand children smiling, etc. Being able to share these moments and relive them.
To create, to capture the beauty of the world, to promote the beauty of my forgotten corner of the world, to see what happens when I click the shutter, to capture memories, to give myself vision, to see the big picture, to see the little picture, to meditate, to get exercise and stay active and .... because I want to.
I found photography to be a pleasing creative outlet and distraction to my otherwise pragmatic work.

Probably, but you don't get another plate this time. :D
Because it's fun! (if it isn't then you shouldn't be doing it)
To record the pictorial story & prick the memory later on.
it was sex, photography, archery, marriage and guns,in that order. so i picked all of the above.been happy ever since. sex, marriage, and archery are out for now,so guns and cameras will have to do til something else comes along.
I like to record the more common occasions in everyday life. The things we all take for granted that years from now end up being cherished memories. I have one photo of my dad coming into the kitchen half awake, unshaven and in his work clothes looking for breakfast. It was an everyday occurrence but it was the dad I remember, not the one all decked out in his best bib and tucker for our wedding. One is my real dad, the other a guy I seldom ever saw in a suit and one who looked very out of place and uncomfoerable.

DRAGONFIST,,, I LIKE THAT,,,, JOHN
It is more for a bunch of feelings than any objective(no pun intended) reasons. Hunting is forbidden in my country since a decade, so shooting wildlife for me is now bloodless(a partrige in flight is much harder to catch with a camera than with my old faithful Valmet shotgun). I should confess that these days I find somewhat more pleasing to look at the shot(pun intended) critters than to eat them.
To achieve a small and elusive victory over time - to fix situations for a while - is also pleasant. To look at places that, as Heraclitus pointed out - "Panta rei os potamós" - may look like but are no more. For sheer fun. For 'joie de vivre'.
I shoot to capture a moment in time. My shots are my history to be looked at years later and hopefully put a smile on the faces of my family . I like to record events in my travels and capture friends for posterity...mostly for fun !

LOL...how true as we get older!
Several reasons, in no particular order;
To explore the world around me - photography makes me look deeper.
To draw attention to some aspect of a scene.
To share
To commemorate
To be creative
