My mistake. The file folders came up but after a long (2-3 minute delay). I thank all of you who offered help.

I'm really glad you worked it out!

So far none of the suggestions have fully worked. I was able to move around 50% of the photos from my iPhone SE photo file to an external hard disc attached to my windows computer. For some reason I cannot find a "select all" button when I open my iPhone photo file, making even more difficult my try to move the photos.
I got confused along the way. At the end I even tried to delete the systems photo file completely from my iPhone, but iPhone will not allow me to do that. So I stack with a considered amount of storage space occupied by photos, so I cannot update to IOS 14.
Sorry it seems that I am a computer illiterate operator.

It sounds like you are storing some photos in iCloud. That would explain why you don’t get all of them, and why they persist on your iPhone.

I know one thing. with each new OS it gets harder and harder. This is why I want less and less on my phone. NOT more and more.

I have an iDisk jump drive. One side is a USB and the other side is a Lightning plug for the phone. Works great. I have a 64 GB an it hold hundreds of photos. Then I just download them to my external hard drive EASY!!

Thank you all for your kind support. I was not quite successful with your suggestions. I saved 70% of my photos keeping them on iCloud and then I deleted the rest of them out of the Photo file. That gave me space to update my iPhone to IOs 14,2.
Thanks again

Just install the Google Photos app. Then every time you open the app it will upload all (not previously uploaded) of your photos to your Google account (free). You can access your photographs any time on your phone (in the app) and download any back to your phone (into Photos) at any time. You can also access your photos from any computer connected to the Internet by visiting your Google account and selecting Photos from the drop down menu. Any photos here can be downloaded to your computer. I use this facility all the time to transfer photos from my iPhone to my various computers. Oh and it's very easy to use and the app can even delete the photos from your phone after uploading. Give it a try....

I also use Google photos and think it is a great way to save photos seamlessly, however, it appears that the “unlimited free” is coming to an end early is 2021. BooHoo. After that date, any uploads will be counted in your 15 gigs free.

Buy a cable that connects between your computer and your cellular telephone. You may already have such a cable.

One end will connect via the USB port of your computer. The other end will have a connecter matching the battery charging port on your phone.

When in place, this cable connection will allow your computer to read the files stored in your telephone.

Then it is a simple matter of dragging files from your phone to a folder on your computer. You may wish to start a new file with an appropriate name for it, to identify the backup. Good luck.

With my Samsung Note phone I just plug a thumb drive into USB/USB C adaptor and onto phone. Download all the files I want to thumb drive. Works for phones with USB C connector. Don't know about Apple lightning connector but I think that is also two way data.

What are you moving them to? You can email them to yourself a few at a time. You might be able to go thru the cloud. If not you need a lightning to usb cable. Also u can ask Siri.

Does the Iphone downsize the pics when it emails them. That would not be a good thing for me.

Depends on your email host. Mine usually gives me a choice of resolutions.

Gigastone flash drive works well. On one end it has a lightning connector (iPhone) the other end has a USB connector and in between it has memory. They come in varies sizes. Plug in to phone copy photos, plug into computer and pull them off the flash drive. Will have to download the Gigastone app, but it works well. https://www.gigastone.com/EN/product/c/3/n2/28776

Kathy - I think the SanDisk IXpand flash drive is a good option. Plug it into your phone, install the SanDisk app (which it prompts you to), and give permissions so your phone will allow access to your files. The it's off to the races, and you'll have all the images on a flash drive to edit at will.

I have a disc in already. Unfortunately none of the files are on it. Would this act differently?
