Okay, I'm totally jealous, what kind of camera do you have and what type of len(ses) do you use? Give it up. We bird lovers need to know.
Thanks... Well, mostly Canon's... mostly a 35-350, 80-400, and 600... but some were with a 'pocket camera' (A650 Pro) or a Fuji FinePix. For the bird stuff, I mostly use the 50D or 60D... I like them for that better than the 5D (so much I got rid of the 5D).
Patience, preparedness, and position are vital... the Osprey & Eagle shoots, and other 'fishing' shots took WEEKS... of scouting, watching, and just sitting... to get the shot. Out of three weekends of sitting in the same spot, I think I finally netted about 50 good to great Osprey's fishing shots. Eagles fishing... I was in the right place at the right time, and dang near fell out of the boat jumping for my camera (I'd just put it up - and was heading back to the dock, cause it was dusk out, when I saw him flying about 200 yards away... luckily I had the right lens on, and was able to adjust the settings quickly enough).
Most photos have a story... the Heron nest - about 80 feet in the air... so, I clumb a tree opposite of them (3 times over the course of about 4 weeks) and tried waiting for some shots. The Egret - I was in an airboat on Cypress Lake, it was flying away because of the noise. The Canadian Geese, flying down a creek I happened to be walking down the edge of while my son was fishing - I heard them coming, so I tried to get prepared & anticipate where they'd be passing by at (only 2 of 5 clicks were worth saving).
My most published bird shots is of a Peregrine Falcon... and the Eagle head shots. Though the osprey fishing shots are gaining some momentum. LOL
