She hit the final chord seconds before the orchestra. I believe they should be simultaneous but I'd have to listen closely to another recording. You may be correct. I attend the Savannah Philharmonic except now of course there are no in-person concerts. We have a vibrant Savannah Music Festival every spring which showcases all kinds of music. It was cancelled this year just as it was to begin so there was no time to remake it as Zoom concerts or simiilar. I read with interest the comments from people who have transferred CDs to flash drives and I may try to do something similar soon. I have hundreds of CDs in those irksome cases!

Could be? I miss the concerts at NJSO too. Of course no performances since Covid-19.
"Ripping" CD's (recording the original format in mp3 format) is really simple and well worth the effort.
I use "Express Rip CD Ripper" by NCH software. https://www.nch.com.au/rip/ The old Windows Media will also do it. Let me know if I can help.

Stay safe & well,
Mark

Yuja Wang performs Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto. In my opinion, it is the most melodic piano concerto. Quite a few "popular" tunes have come from this.

https://youtu.be/ek_kKFE2ibo Wrong link - this is his 2nd piano sonata. I'll post the concerto later.

Here's the concerto: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=yuja+wang%2c+rachmaninov+2nd+piano+concerto&docid=608053737382873233&mid=EA118F3A6F14C4CEE32EEA118F3A6F14C4CEE32E&view=detail&FORM=VIRE

Enjoy,

This is very personal Mark please forgive me for this post. The Sonata helped me so much in this moment. The Covid nightmare. Protecting my family and loved people. And most of all our life. My wife had a stroke in June and she has become unable to walk talk well or use the whole left side of her body. Other issues are our situation finacially with not great but OK. I take care of her most of the time. I am a very experienced creative in business and art of business. I forgot to listen to music. I played the sonata and it moved me so emotionally about life, creativity and the loving our loved ones and people in general. Thank you Tom

So sorry to hear of the hardships you and she are experiencing. Music can often heal, if only temporarily for few brief moments.
I hear your pain.

i played parts of two other recordings with video of Rach II and at the same point the chords were simultaneous. I point this out mainly to admire the young woman's sang froid at this error; she carried on without a flicker of concern (as she should have) and the conductor (who was very subtle in all his directing) also did not flinch.

I also played parts of Rach III with Stephen Hough and I agree with other comments that it is the more difficult piece. Hough plays like a tree trunk with arms. No bobbing and weaving, no head shaking, just pure power. I looked for a video of him with Rach II and didn't find it. There may be a recording not videoed. He does a very fine video of the Rach Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini, with some conversations and rehearsals, and then the performance at the Proms. A wonderful piece to learn about and see and hear.

I downloaded the Rip thing and will try my hand (or fingers) at transferring a CD to a flash drive!

Mark, based on the number of responses (and the length and depth) to your Rachmaninov
post, one would think this is a classical music forum. The responses were thoughtful and
in depth rather than glib, "off the cuff". The post and the responses left me with a good feeling
that I cannot adequately put into words. You bring out the best in the forum.

Sorry for the late reply. I did not receive your gracious comment until late last night. Thank you so much Lee. I love music and receive much joy from sharing with others, especially on UHH!

Gratefully,
Mark
