If the parties were reversed, if we had a Dem Senate and a Dem POTUS facing significant risk of losing the election...the Dems would ram through a pick in record time, regardless of any oaths they stated four years ago.

They are all worms.

This is what we elect.

Mitch, who once loudly proclaimed that a SCOTUS seat must not be considered a year from the election, will sell his soul to get one approved less than fifty days from the election.

Your assume facts not in evidence, a trait that runs rampant on the UHH. McConnell didn't say when the vote would occur; just that one would be held.

All I was stating was what has been the precedent.

It's amazing to me that Dems think things should be done differently this year, as opposed to the past 140 years, just because the President is Donald Trump. The only problem there is that Trump won't back down - no matter how much the Dems riot, loot, burn and otherwise throw their tantrums.

Not just Mitch, Lindsey elevated flip-flopping hypocrisy to an art form.

Just like it was amazing the republicans under McConnell did exactly the same this 4 years ago with much more time available back then .
The rule must be consistent and not change with the party in the Whitehouse and senate .

Let the games begin!

John W. Dean

@JoeBiden must announce that if the GOP rushes to pack the Court, the Dems will expand the SCOTUS to 11 justices, and expand the lower federal courts by 70 to 100 new judgeships, which have long been needed. In short, he will depoliticize the federal judiciary!

Your logic on this is more screwed up than I thought possible. If Biden were to do this it would politicize this more. Not depoliticize it. Or is this John Dean's logic, which is equally screwed up?

That was not the argument put forth by the GOP in 2016. I'm not sure where you pasted that comment from but it is the argument that many of them have already run to. RGB was deceased for a matter of minutes before the pledges to replace her began flowing in...despite the 2016 promises and rationalizations.

Our political leaders are so full of crap.

In 2016 they should have just said we are going to table this SCOTUS nominee because we can...we hold the power here.

Instead they swore oaths that they must now break, to not consider a nominee in an election year.

I am happy to get to tilt the court firmly conservative.

It's just a shame that our alleged leaders are such worms. So many conservative senators will have to unabashedly violate their own verbal promises. I am sure they will not feel their shame.

We get to seat a conservative justice simply because we can. It's about who controls the power at this moment.
That was not the argument put forth by the GOP in ... (show quote)

What happened to that precedent in 2016?
I think it has little to do with the President being Donald Trump. It has everything to do with McConnell and his 2016 statement (excuse) that we should not allow the sitting president to exercise his duty to put forth a nominee and the Senate's responsibility to grant a fair hearing to that nominee whenever a vacancy occurs.

Now, facing the same situation, but with an opportunity to confirm a conservative replacement, McConnell ignores the phony statement he made as an excuse in 2016.

Conservatives on this forum will excuse McConnell by hypothetically stating that Democrats, in the same situation, would do the same thing. That may or may not be true, but, to me, is not an excuse. Lindsay Graham backed McConnell up in 2016, going so far as to say that he would be true to that statement (excuse) if the situation were ever reversed (adding something to the effect that you could point your finger at him if he were not true to his word when the time came). Now, the situation is exactly reversed. The time has come, and my finger is pointing at you, Lindsay!

Of course democrats would do the same thing but that's no excuse. This is how politics work these days and we allow it.

26 times before this has happened as is now happening in 2020.
The Senate was Republican controlled in 2016, stupid obummer was a lame duck POS.
Precedent IS to proceed with the nomination.
Trump also is NOT a lame duck president and he has the Senate.
