Tom, consider both the process and the tools. I use a tool 'Fast Raw Viewer' to quickly render 1:1 RAW previews and I cycle through my images at the pixel level. I kick 50% or higher on round one looking just at the focus or the lack there of. The second round of what seemed in focus is even easier to kick those that aren't as good. The sooner you get to just the best or those worth considering further, the more efficient will be the editing effort. Kicking the duplicates is critical too. The one best is more important than a 6-image almost exactly the same sequence.

Yes I know I have a ton of photos from way back that are real close to being the same shot. Back when I started shooting, especially my sport shots I was using a Nikon D7000 and it would shoot up to 6 fps. They would add up real quick. I wasn't real good at culling shots back then. Going to start right away. I already did some from way back though, as I had about 23,000 I had on my old windows machine. I brought them over to my Mac. I went through and did sone post work and culled some, probably needs more though. Thanks

Tom

We're already to September, where do you stand?

Did you change from JPEG+RAW to just RAW?
Did you sell the equipment you didn't even use in 2019?
Did you keyword all your legacy images?
Did you replace that flimsy tripod?
Did you watch at least 5 training videos for the software you bought?
Did you create a back-up of your images?
Did you start culling more aggressively?
Did you share more images on social media?
Did you shoot off of auto?
Did you change to mirrorless?
Did you use that prime lens?
Did you buy some film?

Like your questions. Gave me an opportunity to think about what I do. My answers are numbered 1-12 with no simple yes or no at times. My first real camera was a Kodak Medalist 2, which I still have, back in the 50s (back in the 1950s).
1. No
2. No
3. Yes - Mostly
4. Yes, but mostly use a very good 3-footed monopod
5. No
6. Yes - using 2 SSDs
7. Yes - SoSo
8. Only on UHH
9. Yes - Mostly
10. Yes - Canon M50 Which I love. (Also still shoot my T6i)
11. Yes (and NO)
12. No (No longer have a DR for developing B&W and E6)

Here are my answers for what they are worth. Photography to me is very personal - all mine. Although I do value the opinions of others.

I have one comment only - RAID is not a backup, which you'll come to realize when two drives fail, as can happen in disaster.

Raid 5 system I have at work has online hot spare - yes two drives can fail, as long as don't happen simultaneously!

By the way - it has been running 24x7 for over 10 years and no failures!

The point is a RAID is not designed for backup and it’s overkill for a backup. A RAID either mirrors the data, not as a backup but so that if one drive goes down the system can stay live and still have access to the data. Or the data is “striped” across the drives for faster access. Or there’s a combination of mirroring and striping. This is what RAID 5 does, it stripes the data and each drive has a parity block of another drive that can be used to rebuild the data if a drive goes down.

Just commenting that a raid system can survive two drive failures!

I know how a raid system works...
I ordered the components ( HP Server, serial sata drives ) loaded the server operating system, and configured the server, it is Raid 5 with a online hot spare...
Been working without any failures for over ten years!

I figured that since you’re running RAID 5 you probably know how it works. I was just expounding on it for the other guy that was using RAID for backup.

So what is a RAID system and what does it do? (A back up system? It sound like that is not its primary usage??)
