I searched for a used Apple Thunderbolt monitor and was lucky to find one that was not damaged. Works beautifully and it is I believe 4K. Look on eBay there are quite a few on there, just read the sellers description and Examine the pictures. I paid 350.00 and am very satisfied.

I generally have found Dell monitors are inexpensive and excellent. If you charge your MacBook via a USB C cable, get a monitor that connects and charges with the same cable. It makes for a very clean desktop. I have bought several monitors for my office on sale from B&H.

Thank you

Over a year ago I bought a DELL SE2717HR from Microcenter in Dallas. 3840 x 2160 resolution. IPS.
Best monitor I have ever had. Love it. It is my main one of three. IF cost is an issue, cannot go wrong with the DELLs.

I use LG 27 inch 4K with my MacBook pro. It works great with low or high resolution. I am happy with it since I bought it a year ago. I use it for photo editing.

Only you know what is important to you. But be sure that whatever you purchase make sure that it can be calibrated.

Use your older Mac for a second monitor if you have one.

4 K is plenty, especially if it is a Mac

Sometimes more is not always better. You should consider how the monitor will perform during times of high use.

Forgive my ignorance but why would a monitor not perform well under any use. If used 8 hours a day does that mean performance would suffer even the least bit?

I just recently bought this for my 2012 Mac Pro for use with Lightroom and Photoshop. I researched extensively and this is the best display for the price. It has USB 3.1 hub on the side, no speakers (who needs them, they're always crap anyhow) and the resolution is perfect for editing. You do not want too high resolution. Get it from B&H https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1430186-REG/dell_27_p2719h_full_hd.html

Crazy! When I bought it about a month ago the price was $249, now it has gone up $100. Check for it at Amazon, Adorama or other online sellers, but they probably all fix the price the same.

I struggled with that question and while I can afford the "very good" I don't like to spend any more than I have to. My choice eventually, this spring, was Benq SW271.

I use it with my MacBookPro. I set the resolution at 1920 x 1080 for daily use and switch to maximum resolution for photo editing. That only takes a few seconds.

Even when using the lower resolution the picture is hugely better than my HP which is a 1920 monitor because you still get the benefit of the much smaller pixels.

There are many good choices, of course. This was my choice and I'm quite happy with it. PM me if you have any questions.

If you use Photoshop, Is the text displayed smaller than usual?

The text is smaller the higher the resolution. I find 1920 x 1080 Resolution (16:9) best for me; it is the same as the 1920 x 1200 (3:2) resolution of a 24" regular (non-widescreen) display, like this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/829236-REG/Dell_469_1137_U2412M_UltraSharp_24_LED.html/specs. The 24" is about the same height as the 27" 16:9 but not as wide.

I've been using a BENQ 27" on my old Mac Pro for the last year. My RGB print match and CMYK press printing accuracy is fantastic.
