Please recommend a 27-inch external monitor for a MAC computer. This will be used with Lightroom and Photoshop. Money does matter, do you think it is worth the extra money to buy a 5K over a 4K monitor?
Thank you for your help.

Sometimes more is not always better. You should consider how the monitor will perform during times of high use.

I struggled with that question and while I can afford the "very good" I don't like to spend any more than I have to. My choice eventually, this spring, was Benq SW271.

I use it with my MacBookPro. I set the resolution at 1920 x 1080 for daily use and switch to maximum resolution for photo editing. That only takes a few seconds.

Even when using the lower resolution the picture is hugely better than my HP which is a 1920 monitor because you still get the benefit of the much smaller pixels.

There are many good choices, of course. This was my choice and I'm quite happy with it. PM me if you have any questions.

I have an older Eizo monitor that has worked very well with my MacBook Pro.

Be sure your model Mac can drive a 5k external before buying one.

I have an Apple monitor. Absolutely flawless performance. Perfect color and resolution. Somewhat pricey though.

I had an Eizo monitor for many years. When it was time to replace it last year, I found that BenQ offers the same kind of quality at lower prices.

Thank you for that info John. When mine goes out, I’ll take a look at the BenQ. Do the BenQ monitors have “hardware” color calibration like Eizo?

I .. cheated.
I was at Wall World, looking at printers. Cheap all-in-ones, I use it, Mom gives it to a kid.

Pile of boxes. Open box items. I now have a 43" TV/monitor. That's all that was in the box, still wrapped. New warranty. Sometimes I literally have to move the seat to the right to see the big picture. but it's there.
Watching NOVA at 1368 (old program) from 5 feet away- get in the middle and lean back. AND I have a desk, 'cause this is on the wall.
When the Samsung went dark we bought a 55" at Best Buy. It's a few years old, brand new, 3 year warranty from date of purchase. "A few years old" meant no camera, no microphone, no DRM. Half price. YAY!
Yes I lucked out, the right place at the right time, and if I didn't need one right then I wouldn't have noticed.
Be patient, and keep checking. Oh, i just got a D3100 from eBay. It came with the $35 lens!

I generally have found Dell monitors are inexpensive and excellent. If you charge your MacBook via a USB C cable, get a monitor that connects and charges with the same cable. It makes for a very clean desktop. I have bought several monitors for my office on sale from B&H.
