I have the sigma 70-200 for over 5 years. Tack sharp never had a problem with, just purchased the sigma 150-600 C learning how to use it correctly seems to be just as good quality as other sigma lens.

I lean toward Tamron for that particular lens.

Hi there.
Looking for some information on which brand
Lens is better.
The Tamron or Sigma.
The lens I'm looking for is the 70 to 200mm F/2.8.
Thank you all in advance.

I have the Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 and I love. Great pictures, no complaints and would highly recommend the lens.

Try checking the particular models you are interested in on DXOMARK website, you can select the lens you want to review, and pair it with many different camera bodies to see their test results. On the brands, I have a few of both Tamron and Sigma (and others) models and some are good, some are very good, Good luck with your quest.

As a recent owner of two Tamron lenses and a life-long Nikon guy, I find the quality of the Tamron has impressed me. The build quality appears very good, the autofocus fast, and the vibration control very good. I am happy with the Tamron lenses as an addition to my Nikon equipment.

It's a personal choice you have have to deal with. You may discover, as you improve and begin to become more selective with the images you're willing to accept, better glass may be right for you. Buy the best you can afford to start with and read the reviews. There are many factors to consider when selecting zoom lenses.

For what camera? What is wrong with OEM other than price? Of my 35 some lenses, of the ones I actually use, only two are other than Pentax, 1 Tamron and 1 Vivitar.

I have a tamron 150-600 canon and have no complaints. I think with most things its the particulR one you get and not so much. If you sigma I would look at the sport a lot more money but the reviews I read favor that over contempory. I pick the Tamron as very happy with them in past. I know youdidnt ask about the 150-600

I’m not familiar with the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 but I own the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2 and it’s an excellent lens.

If I were looking at that range (70-200) in f stop of 2.8, I would consider the Tamron G2. Per cost this lens looks to be a winner. I am a Canon shooter and own Tokina, Sigma and Tamron, but not in this range or f Stop.

Good luck, J. R.

No, all is not personal opinion. A Leica, a camera that has never attracted my attention, is a camera built to most exquisite details. Their lenses are built the same way. The company enjoys a world wide reputation like no other camera of its type and its cameras and lenses are the most expensive prices that anyone could pay. I have never been convinced that a Leica will give me better images than those I make now with my gear.

On the other hand, it does not matter if a person buys the "best" lens made in the world with the most sophisticated optics. If that person does not do his or her part when shooting the results will be very disappointing. Today it is not that easy to buy a lens that will not perform well.
The person behind the camera continues to be as important today as when we did not have all of this modern technology available.

This topic has been bantered about before. If you go on-line, you will find dozens of professional reviews that may be a bit more unbiased than those who own a certain brand Winger.

Happy hunting

Both are excellent lenses. The thing to note is the recent different philosophies of the two companies. Sigma tends to maximize sharpness, sort of quality above all, so their new Art/Sports lenses are often big and heavy. Tamron lenses are usually smaller and lighter, and IMO better ergonomically-designed. In the lens you specified, the Sigma Sports version weighs 63.7 oz. vs. the Tamon which weighs 52.4 oz. That's a difference of 11 oz. The Sigma is a little longer, by 1/2 inch.

If I were to make a choice, I would choose the Tamron, even though it might well be a tad less sharp, jsut because of the lighter weight and in my book better ergonomics. Not bashing Sigma at all, I own their 24mm/1.4 and 50mm/1.4 Art lenses.
