Dont know much about snakes, dont like 'em , never did never well.
It didnt bit me or go after me, so I'm assuming its a friendly. It has been hanging out in this bush for a few days now.

It has a round pupil so it is probably a non venomous snake. I'll look it up and see if I can get an id.
Nice shot of your new pet.

Very nice pictures of a Garter Snake, they are totally harmless and quite beneficial. They produce there young alive.

I don't like snakes, either. This one is harmless, though.

Cute little garter snake. They prefer to live in groups so there may be a few more around. Harmless amd a lot of people keep them as pets.

Long thought to be non-venomous, the gartersnake is now recognized as being “mildly venomous”. During the past decade there have been several reports in the medical literature of envenomation resulting from the bites of the gartersnake. Their saliva is mildly toxic ( all snake venoms are the product of specialized salivary glands) but is unlikely to cause more than local inflammation in the region of the bite,

Interesting, I have been bitten by more non-venomous snakes than I can count, including Garter Snakes with no adverse effects. Both cases, as far as I can tell resulted from the snake being allowed the chew on the victims for prolonged periods. It sounds like efforts from someone to write a scientific paper rather than to provide any meaningful, real world information. I'm sure you you have increased the unreasoning fear (paranoia) experienced by uninformed people and result in the destruction of many beneficial reptiles.

Concur, I've been bitten by garter snakes, black racers (black snakes), coachwhips, rat snakes, indigo snakes, brown water snakes (moccasins but not the Cottonmouth) and never, never had a reaction.

They probably don't like any of you either. So leave them on their way. I think probably they were here before us.

Nice looking Garter Snake....yes they are harmless but they will bite you if you handle them. They breed in large numbers and are quite plentiful. My cat...FEE FEE hates them and has a fit when she sees one under our porch.HA hahaha
