Yupp, thanks for the info everyone.
I am most certainly not a lover of snakes,
this one is hanging around in the same spot again today, could it be getting ready to have babies, or maybe already had them and is guarding them??
It has been hanging around on top of one my shrubs in the front of my house, and when it gets spooked by me taking photos it just goes down in the shrub,
and the shrub is to thick for me to peek into.
Oh and here is another shot I took today.

It didnt bit me or go after me, so I'm assuming its a friendly. It has been hanging out in this bush for a few days now.

It's just a harmless Garter snake. They are good to have around because they eat insects and mice. It's more afraid of you than you are of it. Won't try to bite you unless you are trying to harm it.

There might be a hole in the ground within the shrub that its using for a nest. We have black racer living in our front shrubs...takes care of the lizards and frogs that hang out on our wall. Garters are good to have around.

ALL snakes are lethally venomous and to be avoided at all times. Not entirely accurate but it works well as a life policy.

Nice set, last spring my wife my wife was going to mow the lawn. She came running to the house yelling their was a snake on the mower deck, so I went down to check it out, the snake was gone. For the rest of the year she wouldn't get close without me checking for snakes.

That would be your friendly garter snake. Somewhat harmless in that they aren't venomous. But they will hous and strike at you if you piss them off renough. Great for insect and small rodent control.

I had many of these snakes in and around my yard when I lived in the Chicago area and occasionally would accidentally kill one with the lawnmower. Other than that I didn't bother them except to take pictures. The female is larger than the male and several males will try to breed with the female at the same time. One day when my daughter came home from school she told me there were a bunch of snakes fighting in the yard. It turned out to be about six or seven males trying to breed with one female. I never told her any different.😁

Just a good ole Garter Snake. Always liked to see them around my house as they took care of a lot of critters that would probably have tried to winter over in my cellar if the snakes had gotten to them first.

I'm not a fan of snakes, good or bad.
But I am going to let this guy hang around as he is being nice enough to let me photograph him.

Good thing you weren't tempted to pick it up. Garter snakes like to pee all over you.

Oh yeah. I can conjure up the smell just thinking about it. I guess it's because I caught a LOT of garter snakes in my day.
