Hello all,
I'm thinking of buying the Nikon D7100. Can anyone here give me any tips on what I should look out for? I already have a D7000 and I am pretty happy with it, thus the D7100 would be a gift.
What are your thoughts?
Very low shutter count, MINT condition, in the box, with everything that came with it originally.
I remember when the 7100 came out. At the time, I was thinking about upgrading so I read all the reviews I could. Nearly all said that there was so little difference between the 7000 & the 7100 that it wasn’t worth upgrading. Go for the 7200.
The D7200 is a better camera, besides a better viewfinder, you also have more customization of the button and controls. I have owned the D7000, D7100 and the D7200. I still use my D7200 and love it.

What is the battery pack that you use?
Klambar,
I use the standard battery that came with the D7000 kit. It is labeled "Nikon Lithium ION Battery pack." It hasn't given me any problem since I've had it. It also has "EN-EL15 7.0V 1900mAh 14Wh" on the reverse side.
I have a D7100 for sale. PM me if interested.

I have a 7100 and use it almost every day for work. I am a Deputy Coroner and have to photograph death scenes for documentation and to include when a body goes to the Medical Examiner. I also use it for other professional photo work. I have an attached battery pack the makes handling easier. Having double card slots is good when I have to do multiple cases before I can down load to a computer.
Since you are a kind of professional photographer, you can either write off a new camera purchase, or have the "authorities" pay for a upgrade. Your 7100 is old technology. And you need quality equipment to properly fill the requirements of your position. I see a D850 in your future. You also need better glass or the D850 not work as well as with obsolete lenses.
Mpb.com has a d7100 in excellent condition for around $400
Adorama.com has a d7200 in E+ condition for around $500
The 7200 is well worth the few dollars more...

I have a 7100 for sale. under 2000 shutter situations. Pristine condition.
I had a Nikon D7000 and a D7100 at the same time, other than the D7100 having 24 mp to the 16 mp of the D7000, there wasn't much of a difference and they both shot great pictures. I ended up giving them to my son and daughter.
I am not on the same technical level as other guys, but, I have 7100. I have dropper this camera 2x - still perfect. I would say ...look at 7100 features you do not have with 7000 …& do you really want them sooooo much (ie. Do you really need them … at the cost) Do the same with 7200 and then compare / decide. Today $200 is a lot of money, tomorrow you will not remember it. But the rule of buying is ...you need to get 3x excited and 3x sober ...then you buy . And still expect the buyers remorse.

Go for the D7200, Adorama sells them. My wife went from the D7000 to the D7200, she had taken amazing bird photography
I had a D7100, and it was like magic.
Take your time, learn/go thru all the menus, learn all about what/where the buttons.
I then acquired a D3200. Smaller, lighter, a tad simpler. SAME sensor, SAME pictures.
I kept the D3200, sold the D7100, and picked up a D600 for the full frame experience.
Are you happy with the D7000? The D7100 is a nice, but minor upgrade. As is the D7200.
Why not a D850 instead? Instead of more of the same, up your game.

I have both the D7100 and the D7200. I love them both... but, the D7200 has a larger buffer... so, if you are into birding or wildlife shooting that requires higher FPS counts, you will likely not be happy with the D7100. Both deliver great photos however.
I am in the same situation and I agree, go for the D7200 instead of the D7100 for reasons stated above.
