For me, it would be Hawaii.
We loved Hawai’i too. For us it was on Kauai, at Anahola Bay. We spent 2 weeks in a rented condo just 25 steps to the water.

Agree. The last place is always great, but whenever travel comes the forefront I always remember Bali.
It’s on the list! Actually, our Paul Gauguin cruise to Tahiti and the South Seas is coming up in August, if French Polynesia opens for foreign travelers on July 15th like it’s supposed to.
To get through customs in Tahiti we have to of had a COVID test within 72hrs of entry. No one testing positive or having a fever will be allowed to board the plane, which is a big relief for us as planes are hotbeds of contamination. There are no known cases of COVID in French Polynesia and they are taking great precautions to not get any.

While I prefer the positive tilt of this thread, it might also be interesting to start one about the flip side: what was the worst (most disappointing) place you have travelled to? I’d start by thinking about where I wouldn’t go back to.
We have one of those too. But as you said, I think I’ll stay positive.

Best place? No doubt...going home. Next. My Grandparents. Both of them. Finally. The ballfield growing up.
My memories from growing up would take me back to my favorite brook in western Massachusetts. I spent many a summer stalking brookies there.

My favorite place now is SoCal. So much to do so much to see.
Having been fortunate enough to have traveled extensively I'm often asked which was my favorite trip. My answer is always "My next one."
White water rafting the Zambezi River starting at Victoria Falls certainly qualifies as 1 of my (many) top 10 adventures.

Oohh....I’d like that one. My Africa Safari is up there too. We rented a large plane for nine days and visited four camps: two in Zimbabwe and two in Botswana. Six of us plus our pilot. Awesome!

Because of the Pandemic, like everyone else, our trips have nearly all been canceled. In Zoom meetings and by text we see that some of our friends lament having to do the same. In our woe is us whines ( like we have soooo much to gripe about ) we compare notes and find that we often get asked the same questions. I think the most often asked question about our travels is “What was the best place you’ve ever traveled to?” After much reflection and thinking hard about the levels of amazement and pleasure I had at each, I finally have my answer, “The last one. Each and every time.”

It sure has been fun taking these trips down Memory Lane. Hopefully they left a pleasant note to the end of your day!

Wouldn't the best place be relative to the traveler?
Someone else may have no interest in my best place.
I do agree with "The last one. Each and every time.”!
Then, they could all be best places, for different reasons.
Yes - over 75 yrs of my 82 yrs of life and adventure the range has been quite extensive and quite interesting - from the depth of the Oregon Caves to the top of the Mayan Grand Pyramid at Coba.

If you limit your travels of CA to So. CA. you miss the 10's of 1,000's of wonder of the rest of CA.

Don’t get me wrong now, SoCal is my favorite but there are lots of places here in California that I go to. Highway 395 is often traveled on our adventures. As is the Coast Highway, with the 5 and 99 being old good friends too. Paradise was serene and lovely before the fire. Lake Tahoe and all the little lakes and streams in the Sierras, the Yosemite Valley, Mono Lake, Eureka and the redwoods, wine country, Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, the coastal winery’s, I could go on and on. I’ve lived in California since 1965, seen all sorts of changes in development but the quiet places stay the same. Now on my road trips besides fishing I have cameras too.
My best place: the next one! We’ve enjoyed every place we’ve been (albeit not all equally) but, when planning where to go next - as much as we say “we must go back to .... again,” it’s the lure of the next place.
