Because of the Pandemic, like everyone else, our trips have nearly all been canceled. In Zoom meetings and by text we see that some of our friends lament having to do the same. In our woe is us whines ( like we have soooo much to gripe about ) we compare notes and find that we often get asked the same questions. I think the most often asked question about our travels is “What was the best place you’ve ever traveled to?” After much reflection and thinking hard about the levels of amazement and pleasure I had at each, I finally have my answer, “The last one. Each and every time.”

Wouldn't the best place be relative to the traveler?
Someone else may have no interest in my best place.
I do agree with "The last one. Each and every time.”!
Then, they could all be best places, for different reasons.

Yes they are all our best places, and each of us have their own. That’s why I decided on that phrase. From my viewpoint each time I’ve been somewhere fabulous I find the next one to be just as fabulous but in a different way. The last one is just the one I best remember the sounds and smells as well as the sights.
Home again.
I enjoy travel (once out of an airport) and have been to much of the world (but still some places on bucket list) but a warm feeling comes when I get back home again. I am fortunate to live in one of the best places in the world.
Although I have to admit my raft trip down the Grand Canyon last summer (a bucket list item) will always remain near the top of my list. Right there with my Africa safari with my late wife and friends four years ago.

It reminds me of the reply my late mother had given to one of my sister in laws when said sis made the claim of having married the best of the brothers. She put a stop to the nonsense with two words. “For you!”

Think about this a bit. Isn't the last place you've ever traveled to your home ?

For me, it would be Hawaii.

Agree. The last place is always great, but whenever travel comes the forefront I always remember Bali.
While I prefer the positive tilt of this thread, it might also be interesting to start one about the flip side: what was the worst (most disappointing) place you have travelled to? I’d start by thinking about where I wouldn’t go back to.
Best place? No doubt...going home. Next. My Grandparents. Both of them. Finally. The ballfield growing up.
My maternal grandmothers when I was young. Now my favorite place is 16 acres Ocala,Fl. horse country 20 miles from the nearest town. Two of my children also reside here.

I like to think of it as ‘Returning’ home. ‘Traveling’ indicates planning and preparing for an extended stay somewhere. At least that’s how I think of it. Oh, I suppose you could find several meanings in any collection of words, but that’s what traveling is for me.
