Mike has it. Seed pods of a Red Maple acer rubrum. The seed pods of the Silver Maple acer saccharinum tend to have a light tan ''wing'' as opposed to the Red Maples. 45+ years in the tree care industry and yes I ran around with one on my nose as a "kid'' too. Great silly fun.

I would go with ash leaf maple based on the narrow angle between the seeds. If it is, the leaves do not really look like a maple leaf.
