I have a couple of websites, on Weebley. They are free if you don't use your own domain. You can do anything you want with the layout, it's all drag and drop.

Teachers at my school love Weebly - they all say it's very easy to use.

Tech support has been pretty good too. I've been using their Dream Objects storage services for wordpress backups, works great.

Worldcycle, I've watched your posts and love your photographs so my complements. Some years ago I faced the same dilemma so I built my own website using Adobe Dreamweaver, and hosted it with GoDaddy.com. We traveled 3 ~ 5 months a year in our RV and wanted to record our travels where we could share our adventures with our family and friends. When we would post a new Travel Log we advise them by email and give them a new hyperlink. This lets them view the Logs at their leisure and at their interest level. Our primary cause was to record for our children and our grandchildren how we saw and photographed the lands of the US, Canada and a little of Mexico thrown in for good measure.

GoDaddy will recommend Worldpress as a publishing vehicle, and of course they will offer you professional help it you are so inclined. I love GoDaddy as when you need technical assistance you will be speaking to someone in Phoenix, AZ and not Calcutta. Here is a link to our site and if you have questions please PM me. Try shutterfly. They provide templates, easy to use and post. It is free, you can create several different sites from the photo you up load.

I use Google Blogger. It is easy to use and supports embedded photos. You can create a separate blog for each trip as opposed to WordPress that is one continuous blog. I paste a link to the blog in my Facebook update posts and friends can click on it to go directly to the blog.

I travel extensively. Currently I post my photos on Facebook with a short story (blog?) about the day/event or whatever the photo series is about. I then caption each photo with a story or explanation about what the photo is of. Usually I post about a dozen photos. For example on a recent trip to Antarctica I did a story about the mornings excursion with photos, then a day or two later I would post the afternoons excursion. As you can imagine, having someone go back to my Timeline on Facebook to see my photos is very awkward. They need to scroll down experiencing the trip backwards and then sorting out the different days experiences from other photos I have posted along the way. Some examples of captions attached.

What I am searching for is a Website that will let me easily create a category for say Tibet, Antarctica, Cuba, Chile, etc.... with then my stories and multiple captioned photos. So far the only site I have seen that actually advertises the ability to caption photos is SMUGMUG. Anyone with experiences with SMUGMUG or other sites that let you showcase your travels or photos in this manner. If you wish to share your site for an example that would be excellent. Thanks in advance everyone.

flickr can help organize things. They have a free account, but the number of photos is limited. A paid account can have as many photos as you can stand to load in.

When you load a photo into flickr you can choose to place it in an album that you define. That way you can have an album for each location you want to present. You can write a brief description that goes with the album (not sure how much you can cram into the text of the album description). You can place a given photo into more than one album without duplicating it. So you could have an album for a location, and another album for a group of people whom you travel with. Or another album for just sea lions that you see in several different locations. Each photo can have lots of text description.

Photos and albums can be set to be publicly accessible or private, so you can share them with friends or family only.

flickr also has topical groups, where people can present photos of specific things or discuss subjects of interest.

Worth looking into.

I have the Adobe photography subscription and use their Spark pages to journal, inserting photos and captions, while I travel. Then I put the Spark page on another app in the subscription plan called Portfolio, which is an easy to use webpage builder.

Check Out GO DADDY. I used them in the past.

Me too. Rebuilt a Wordpress site using a go daddy template in one week. Kept it simple as I am not trying to sell. More of a portfolio display. johnpaulhoward.com

SmugMug is good so is wix I use wix GoDaddy is good but they want you to do is WordPress WordPress you have to use a lot of your own coding. Some people use Weebly. If you use the Lightroom or adobe subscription planned it comes with a free website Adobe portfolio that's very good SmugMug is probably the best Indian wicks in my opinion. I'm still working on wix the free part so far it's okay. you can check out my links below to see several that I'm working on.

The first and last of mine are ok... The first one in my list starts at GoDaddy which is my homepage and then a link that shoots over to wix. There's also flicker and Instagram. wix offers two sections and you can use them both at the same time 1 is just a portfolio the other one is a store to sell. Other than SmugMug I think it's the easiest.

Thank you very much for the compliment. Thanks Norm, nice site. I love the way it is laid out with the links on the side (National Parks) Pretty much how I want to do it but want a little more 21st century look to it. Yours is by far the closest to what I am looking to do.

See seven-oaks.net/dickspics for an example of a site built with the free version of WordPress. You can create as many pages/galleries/posts as you wish, with as much or little commentary as you wish. It is reasonably straightforward to learn in my opinion, but it does require a bit of study, trial, and experimentation.
