The closest is that, let’s accept the 12 billion for the discussion, light more than 12 billion light years away ... in any direction ... had not existed long enough to reach us.

The BIG BANG did not happen from a single point as Hollywood shows.

The universe, every single point, came into being as every single at once and all of those points have been moving ever farther apart from each other ever since ... but it was infinite from the beginning.

Therefor, there are parts of the universe that cannot be observed from our point ... ever.

Beyond this horizon we can not know to a certainty what lies there.

It is completely rational to assume that it’s a continuation of the observable universe, but ... maybe it’s dragons, or space cowboys, or a chain of camera stores where a NIKKOR 600 f4 sells for $0.09.
There is no true edge. br br The closest is that,... (show quote)

Heidegger argued that all things exist, at once, in their entirety... that would explain and agree with your statement... I couldn't begin to argue otherwise...

Consider how long it takes that starlight to reach us, if you fear the edge. I don't think we will disappear from the Cosmos just yet!

Wrong song, GES, you're thinking of "Don't Fear the Reaper"- Blue Oyster Cult... and the first time I've ever typed "oyster" twice in one day, in different conversations... I'd say that's a sign- a symbol!- that the edge is nearer than we think!! YIKES!!

Beautiful shot! These days we see way too may time exposure star shots such that they have become a cliche. Same for time exposures of water. You did both - and made it work brilliantly. Congrats.

Really glad you like the image, Bob - THANK YOU!

Kind of.

Best estimates have the age of the universe at, rounded off, 14 billion years.

That gives us an observable universe of roughly 28 billion light years across ... not taking cosmic inflation into account.

Taking inflation into account that same 28 billion light year observable universe ... remembering we are seeing what was 14 billion years ago, not what is now ... is estimated to be between 90 and 100 billion light years across.

That light will not reach us for about another 31 to 36 billion light years ... at which point those ‘ends’ of the universe will have moved even farther apart.

Even that, however, is not the end of the total universe which is infinite.
