There was a similar thread yesterday where posters described their backup strategies. At one time, I used my 128gb iPad for backup, but abandoned that approach for a RAVPower WD-03 filehub, which tho effective was slow to backup large raw files. Last year, I bought a WD-09 upgraded filehub that can backup a SD card to a portable disk or SSD at the push of a button. On a recent workshop, I was backing up up to 300 30+ gig raw and small jpeg duplicate files in less than 15 minutes. If I wanted to share one of the jpegs, I simply connected my iPad via Bluetooth to the filehub. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Why not take your laptop with you? My Macbook Pro takes up about the same amount of space and is a LOT faster than my iPad, and has Lightroom and Photoshop full versions. All I need is a card reader and adapter to Lightning. Transferring RAW wireless will take forever.
I use the PlayMemories App from Sony to transfer files wirelessly. It works and it’s easy to use, but it seems to only transfer files as JPEGS. To transfer RAW files, I use the card reader with lighting connector, easy as pie.
Connect the camera to the iPad because the power from iPad isn’t enough but if you connect the camera it will download your pics.
Lighting SD Card reader works as well. I don’t know what Sony uses for memory cards.

I have tried in the past to download to a new 128 GB iPad using the lightening connector and a card reader. I have a Sony 7III, but I have never been able to get it to download pictures wirelessly. Depending on what happens with the Covid 19, we have a 26 day European cruise this spring and I would like to ensure that my pictures are preserved. I do shoot in raw. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Lots of good advice for you on this thread. I’ll only add that regarding your cruise, if I were you I would cancel it, especially one in Europe. I just canceled two cruises myself, one in April and the other in July. Better to be safe than sorry.
I use the Sony wireless transfer from my camera to iPad for ones I want to compare or show off. Dead simple. I keep the cards intact and I copy to an external hard drive when back (home) at the laptop. I don’t re-format the cards; it’s cheap redundancy to buy a new one for each use.
I have an Olympus EM-5MkII and was downloading wirelessly to an iPad on our last cruise. Just had to get the Olympus ap for my iPhone. The system works fine by the wifi on the cruise was ungodly slow. I assume that your Nikon might have the same issue. It took forever to upload just 25 shots or so. On my next cruise I am going to take a card reader and save a bunch of time.. I shoot Jpegs by the way.

For ten bucks or so you can get an
SD card reader to lightening port adapter for your iPad/iPhone. That’s what I use on cruises.
