I have used Staples for just this purpose with very good result and modest price. I would do it again.

Printing yourself is easy but I don't have much knowledge on binding. Using standard binders don't make for nice books though.

Why not print out the pages you want and take those to a place like staples for spiral binding....that is not expensive.

I thought Staples got into trouble a few years ago for printing copyrighted material. Did that blow over?

Not familar w/ that however you would be doing the printing from perhaps a manual on line then taking the printed sheets to staples to bind in a spiral.
Yrs ago when I got a....canon I think, it came w/ a lousy manual so I call canon and complained and they sent me a printed copy of the whole manual.....free.

While a phone would not be my first choice {I don't own one}, an eight or ten inch tablet is a lot easier to deal with when out and about than a paper manual. It will take up less room and won't get any bigger if you add more manuals. A tablet also adds easy searchability that will point to all instances of the topic you are looking for. Nikon has an app that lets you download any of their manuals from one spot. I use a Kindle Fire.

Actually reading a manual on an ultrasharp smart phone screen can be quite effective. Here are two screenshots from my 513 page Canon 7D Mark II camera manual being viewed using the PDF reader on my Samsung Galaxy s8+ cell phone screen. I'm 73 and wear glasses but for me its much easier and faster to use than any thick paper manual, and I can find whatever I'm looking for in seconds with the search feature. The phone is with me 24/7 and so I always have access to the full manual no matter where I am. Any really tiny text that may be a bit more difficult to see on the small screen, like on the nomenclature diagram, can be easily enlarged a using a thumb and forefinger. I've read the entire manual on this and my previous phone, quite a while back, and now use it just for a reference when needed.

Has anyone had a manual printed up by Kinko, Office Depot or the like? There's so much to the manual I'd like to have it printed with a spiral binding so that it will lay out flat and I can have it with me at all times when I'm out learning to be a photographer.
Once again, thanks folks

Rick

Yes, I have printed manuals done by Kinko with spiral binding. They came out great. The key to keeping the cost down is to have them printed in black-and-white and not color. If that’s acceptable to you then that’s a great way to go.

Honestly I am going to guess you have a smart cell phone and iPad or Pad of some sort.
As advised download a pdf and put it on your tech stuff. You can print 4 up a page
It will be smaller but probably doable. Good luck.

Take a look at David Busch's books, he makes them specific to each camera model and I think I'd describe the books as what manuals should be.

I agree. Check out guides by Busch or Darrell Young. Both well written with a more in depth explanation of different settings.

I have Nikon manual viewer 2 on my IPhone and IPad and right I have 28 manuals and when someone has a question on a Nikon Camera I just download and keep the manual in my library. This is a free app from Nikon.

I too like a manual that you can hold in your hand and browse through. Fortunately all my Nikons came with printed manuals. To do it myself I would print it double sided and take it to an office store for binding. My local office store can punch the holes and put the spiral on a one hundred page document in about one minute.

You can download your manual to your iPhone or iPad. I find that very useful than caring a manual around.
and the cost is $0

I'll try to answer all the questions at once.
How do I know what I'll need?
camera manuals.com and photocheatsheets don't have a product for the D300.
I'll try loading it on my phone and see how that goes. I would never have thought of this one.
KEH has one but I've busted my camera budget for this month.

And now a question of my own, anyone used the Magic Lantern guides? I can get a used one from Amazon.

Thanks again folks
Rick

There's an app for that....I use Manual Viewer 2 I downloaded from the play store to my android phone. It works great for my Nikon camera manuals.

Manuals are OK if you are just you are an experienced photographer and already know what you want to do but don't know how to do it with your particular camera. If you want to learn to be a photographer look at Steve Perry's ebooks, David Busch's books, or Thom Hogan's ebooks. They not only tell you the hows but more importantly the where, when, and why you do something. Don't know about Magic Lantern books but the reviews on Amazon seem to be good.
