Be careful of anyone who tells you {without trying} that the combination won't work. A few years ago when I was still a Canon user, I received all kinds of advice that a 2X TC wouldn't AF on my Rebel ..... but the combination did.

Thank you

Bill, you might try to use Canon 400 5.6 with x1.4. I am using this set up on my Canon 5d Mark iii for a few years. I use it from close ups to BIF and subject setting far away. I been thing to use this set up on Crop sensor camera to get more range but could not do as yet. Here are a few example photos. Thanks.

Do you use the Canon 1.4 extender with the Canon prime 400 f5.6 lens? I have that lens and never tried the Canon 1.4 extender on it because I had read that they were not compatible. If that's the combo that you are using to get those photos, I am amazed.

I have a Canon 7d ii and a Tamron 100-400 mm lens. Does anyone have any experience using the Canon or the Tamron extenders? I am interested in feedback about image quality and maintaining autofocus. Thank you.
Bill

I have both, a 1.4x II and a2x II from Canon and I love both of them, I do not have any experience with tamron TC's, I do not have any Tamron lenses!

To begin, canon won’t fit on tamron, this being said my 1,4 is almost permanently affix to my 100-400 I loose a bit of definition at 400 but it’s offset by the range I gain

So true. I bought one and had to return it because would only fit Tamron lense.

Bill so sorry for the late reply. Yes, I do use Canon extender 1.4(white color) with my Canon 400mm 5.6 lens. Please try that set up. This one is compatible with your lens. I have the same lens. I love this combination and always get great result. This lens is specially great for BIF photography. This picture I took last Saturday.

Thank you for your response. I never thought of trying that combination because I read it wouldn't work. You proved that to be wrong.
