Once registered you never need to go through that process again. All you do after that is give the cashier your phone number to get the discount.

I registered over a year ago and have been providing my phone # at point of purchase. So, according to some posters I am already registered. If that is true, why did I receive the email and why has Lowe`s called this a new military discount policy? Or perhaps Lowe's discount policy was , up to now, not universally implemented nationwide.

I got the same email but it does not mention or say one word about the Lowe's credit card. It does say the veteran must be registered with a Lowe's online account but that is only an online registration, not a credit card. As for HD, they and Lowe's carry pretty much the same things, but I have not found a Home Depot store in the Houston area that offers any kind of a military discount. I am not saying that there are no stores that offer it, just saying that I have not found one.

With respect I have not found a Home Depot that does not offer the military discount. Perhaps I am wrong and that it is really a veterans discount. I would think active military would be eligible too though.

But the OP of this says that will no longer be the case until you apply and get approved for a Lowes CC.

I wonder if the OP could possibly be mistaken. It has happened before. No really it has.

Lowes has had this for several years that I know of. I compare the prices between Lowes and Home Depot since both are nearby. Usually the price with the 10% discount LOWES beats Home Depot.. Yes the discount is tied to the Lowes credit card.

I'm just taking a guess here, but maybe they just recently decided to add in all Veterans and not just retired military? I sometimes forget that Veterans who did not retire have not received the same benefits as retired military members do.

Lowe's started this over a year ago. I remember in 2018 going to Lowe's and they were transitioning over to requiring active duty and vets to register for the discount. It was not, and still is not linked to their credit card. At that point I stopped going to Lowe's and took all my business to Home Depot, where I can still show my "blue" ID card and get the 10%.

I registered at Lowe’s some time ago using my DD214. Without asking you never know, what is a “blue” ID card?

I have been using both companies A long time and had the veterans discount of 10 percent. Do not have their companies credit cards. Just show cashers a copy of my WW2 discharge . Copied and made billfold size. They know me well enough I do not need to show it.

You have to sign up on the website for the 10% off at Lowes, then just ask for the Veterans Discount at checkout and give them your phone number and it is given, also my Lowes has a huge sign in the store advertising the Veterans discount, Home Depot is different they too give a 10% discount for Veterans you have to ask for it at checkout and show them your Veteran ID Card, or VA Card and you get it, neither require you to sign up for a credit card, Menards does not have a Veterans Discount....it is getting so no matter where I am I just automatically ask if they have a Veterans or a Senior Discount...and many times pleasantly surprised...

It's the ID card one gets when they retire from the Military. And it's blue.

And this is why I brought it up in discussion, I wasn't sure if Lowe's provided that benefit to all Veteran's (with a DD214), or just to Active Duty and Retired military.

here is what I was sent.
"Please update your Military profile. To ensure that you and your household can continue using your military discount without interruption please verify your profile by April 1st 2020."

The discount is NOT tied to the Lowes credit card.

Bought a new lawn tractor from Lowe’s last summer; $200 off on sale + 10% discount. No complaints.

As of April 1 (interesting choice of date), to receive the discount the veteran must have opened a Lowe’s credit card account and added requested mil/vet info.

Just a little off topic, but maybe they are aligning it with the US Navy Chief Birthday?

I have both a Home Despot and Lowe's equally convenient to me. In general I would prefer to shop at HD because I find the are more helpful and better staffed, but I dropped HD and switched Lowe's because HD started to demand that my military ID not only shows that I'm veteran but it must show that I was discharged because of service related medical condition! One lady who works the check out made it her goal to not allow me to use my VA card at check out. I have not seen her for years because I stopped going to HD. A few years ago I was getting ready to buy a lot of lumber for a big home project. I filled out a form at Lowe's providing a lot of information. Now I'm in their computer system as a veteran and I just give them my phone number and show them any ID and receive the 10% discount.

BTW, I'm half deaf because of my time in the army and wear hearing aids given to me the VA. It does not show that on my VA card and was not the reason I was discharged.

I also got a Lowe's credit card but never use it.

I have been using the Lowe’s vet discount for couple of years now.
I buy enough in a years time, but don’t keep track of totals, but it does add up.
Once they get you coded into the computer, at check out, they ask for phone number,
And the discount is automatically taken
Don’t know how I feel about the new policy.
I only use one bank card, and it gets paid off every month.
I guess I will get the Lowe’s card to get the discount, but I will never have a carryover balance!

For (hopefully) the last time: YOU DO NOT NEED TO APPLY FOR NOR HAVE A LOWE'S CREDIT CARD TO GET THE DISCOUNT. Sorry for shouting but seems to be the only way to get the message across.

Just check the Lowes policy on the military discount. You just need a My Lowes account, no cc.
