Has anyone participated in a weekly photo activity? I am looking for one that my teenage niece and I could join. She is very shy and has become interested in photography so I want to encourage her.

See what MinnieV wrote about a Facebook group:

I think having a theme to follow each week would be great for creativity and learning how to see.

Or start your own weekly photo project with the goal of a "2020 in Pictures" scrapbook as the end project.

Or look at these:

https://digital-photography-school.com/12-creative-photography-project-ideas-motivated/

Or for a full year of photos:

PS: I googled "on line weekly photo projects"

Dpreview's "Challenges" are themed and time-tabled. Activity and content varies.

Perhaps you could start be making your own assignments, mentor her while doing them and reviewing at the end of week. I think that’s what you’re describing as a weekly photo activity. If she’s very shy it might be better to just do some one-on-one with her. That way you can assess whether her interest is strong or not.

I have participated in and helped moderate this group activity for two years. It has helped keep me disciplined and encouraged me to try new things. There's no connection to any commercial enterprise so there's no pressure or bombardment with ads, just a group of friendly photographers of all skill levels sharing and supporting each other.

Another site for future reference when she gains experience and confidence, gurushots.com. It is for all levels of photographers and members vote on uploaded photos. The vote count progresses members from newbie to rookie to challlenger to advanced ... to guru. There are also contests and prizes, monetary and non-monetary. Some levels can also compete to have photos placed in shows in a variety of places around the world.

A friend with whom she feels safe and comfortable with and with whom she could do photography and other activities I think would be worthwhile in addition to a weekly assignment. I would be very careful not to have her think that I was trying to "fix" things for her. Please let us know how she does with her photography and with things in general.

How very sweet of you. I will certainly take your advice. She has a good eye for photography and seems to enjoy it. Kids this age need support.

I have book marked the site and will think about it.
Problem is I go through spells where I take 0 or close to 0 photos because I am doing other things. And other times I am only doing one thing with photos or deep into a project like a particular type of bird, flower, macro etc.
At least I think I found the right Face Book Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/327777904493968/

I just wish I could see the photos and themes to better decide if I want to join. It might turn out I don't like the format, or I might love it.

You found it! If you decide to pitch in with us, you’ll find there is no pressure. Sometimes people get weeks behind and catch up at their leisure. Nobody fusses at anybody. I have a tendency to get into other projects and lay my camera aside and quit looking at forums. The main reason I started in this group was to help tether me back to photography when I wander off.

Thanks for the reply, I think I will ask to join. Just so they are warned that I may be AWOL and or Tardy a lot.
