I received an email from Canon announcing Firmware updates. Regarding the security advisory for Canon digital cameras related to PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) communication functions and firmware update functions. https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/product-advisories/detail/the-vulnerability-in-canon-digital-cameras

I updated both of my cameras in a few minutes. Gary

Yes, so did everyone else that bothered to register at least one camera with Canon.

Sorry I offended you with the update. Apparently some did not know.

My camera is registered and I received no notice. Thanks for letting us know initially.

I must not have registered any of my 3 cameras...5DM4, 5DM2 (too old now) and G3X bridge (again too old). Canon has recently serviced the 4 and 2. I must register them today for I did not receive Canon's email.

Thank you gwong1, for I did not receive the email.

From the list, find your camera. On the right hand side, the table will say what FW version is available. Check the version against what’s in your camera. If it’s different, select the link in the table, and it will take you to the camera specific page. Under the Firmware tab, you’ll find the firmware file, select it, save the download to an easy place to find like your desktop. The download is a zip file so you’ll have to extract the contents. Once extracted to another folder, open it and follow the directions that appear in a pdf.

do you have to connect your camera to the computer?

According to the Models Affected list it appears my 60D is not included. Sometimes it can be a good thing to not update your equipment to the latest and greatest.
Not to mention the money you save.

No, there are usually two methods suggested. One does connect the camera to the computer. The other, the one I always use, is to copy the firmware upgrade file to whatever data card your camera uses and follow only the steps associated with that method.

Thank you. I do not think about updating my camera, which I should. This is the first camera I have owned that can be updated. My EOS-R is on the list.
