Yesterday I went to Pearl Harbor because on of the Navy’s newest amphibious landing craft ships the “BOXER” was in port .., with a deck full of Osprey and Jump Jets ...as well as large hover craft down below .. I wanted to take some pics of her as this was a rare port calling ..

Those pics will be posted later .., as part of my tour I of course went to the Arizona Memorial and it was there , with tears streaming down my face , I took the shot you see.

I get very emotional when I’m on the Memorial .., always have , but yesterday was over the top ..,, I guess our Veteran son who flew in from AZ .., and wanted to see the Boxer .., added to the emotion ..

Punch Bowl of the Pacific is my other favorite place ... I am able to handle it as I walk a different pattern each time .., stopping to talk to as many fallen soldiers as I can .., thanking them for their sacrifice ..

Enjoy my rendition of The Battleship Missouri a proud symbol War and Peace ..

Wonderful capture Dr. Bob! It is a real experience visiting the memorial and your photo offers a real tribute. We are all blessed to be here because of the sacrifices made all day every day by our men and women in uniform. The Greatest Generation is almost all gone. Sadly.

According to my renditions, CV 63 & CV64 are both aircraft carriers. Your picture sure looks like a battle wagon (drednaught) rather than a carrier. Please explain.....

That 63 on the bow is the correct designation, USS Missouri is BB-63 - a fast battleship of the Iowa class. (dreadnoughts were a class of battleship first built by the UK in 1906-HMS Dreadnought and within a few years were superseded by even more powerful ships called (for lack of imagination) super-dreadnoughts. Though some countries built dreadnoughts through the end of WW I. Most were scrapped after WW I, though some of the later bigger ones were updated and served through WW II. The only remaining dreadnought in the world is USS Texas BB-35 (launched 1912) served 1914-1948 when it became a memorial ship. Texas was overhauled and modernized more than once over the years.

The UK is using the name for a new class of nuclear submarines.

I like how you have processed the photo. I toured her about 10 years ago. My Dad was on the USS San Francisco during the attack, across from Batttleship Row and saw the whole thing. Fortunately, the Japanese made a key mistake and didn't attack the ship repair facilities (or the fuel storage), which is where the San Francisco was.
