Although designed primarily for passenger use, the Trimotor could be easily adapted for hauling cargo, since its seats in the fuselage could be removed.
Ford Trimotor "Port Clinton"The Ford Trimotor had a near immediate impact on early commercial aviation. Within a few months of the plane's introduction, Transcontinental Air Transport was created to provide coast-to-coast passenger service, based on a series of point to point hops across the country for rest and refueling. This image and the close-up of the "City of Wichita" were scanned from images captured using expired Fuji Superia 100 film.
Ford Trimotor "Eastern Air Transport" Pan American Airways used Ford Trimotors extensively. Their first international scheduled flights connected Key West to Havana, Cuba, in 1927. Eventually, Pan American extended service from North America and Cuba into Central and South America in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Lovely set Paul and the Trimotor is a great old plane to see and watch.
I was always amazed that Ford made a plane as well as cars for transportation being the Thing and I guess I always took it for granted because I never rode a horse to get anywhere....ever.
Perspective is everything.
These are very nice photos of the plance. There have been a few posts of the Ford Tri-Motor plane recently on UHH. The plane in your last photo (NC8407) was here in town back in June, 2015. I went for a ride in it. I included a number of photos in my post of the plane way back then.

My two brothers and I flew on the Eastern Air Transport a few years back. It was once owned by Eddie Rickenbacker.
Great thrill at 88 mph!

Wow..Such a rich history of this airplane Paul..Thx for info. and pictures.
In 1977 I had just landed a two-seat clear canopy aircraft at Peachtree-Dekalb airport in Atlanta when a local news photography asked if I could take him up to do a formation flight with a Ford Trimotor which was doing a publicity flight in the area. I was happy to do it and gave him 15 minutes flying formation with the Tri-motor off its left wing. I don't know if that was the same aircraft. L never got to see the phographic/video results.
Fun set Paul and lovely photos. Have seen them in museums but never flying.

Built a model as a kid. Always fascinated with this aircraft. Thanks for the history and pics.
Beautiful set and beautiful plane 👌👌👌👌
Thank you merrytexan, Photoguy120, Susan! If I have seen this type of plane before, it didn't register in my memory before flying on one at Oshkosh in 2018. Glad you enjoyed.
Let's try this again.
Thank you

Thanks for these. It's has always been one of my favorite planes. I built a plastic model of this when I was a kid and just loved the looks of this thing.
