Has everyone seen the specs on the new Sony Rx100 VII? Promises to be the best little travel camera ever. 1 inch sensor, 24-200 lens, super fast video, all in a pocketable little body.

I purchased the Sony RX10 IV in July 2017. I love it. The new RX100 VII has my attention. Maybe an anniversary gift for my wife. Today's our anniversary. (She can carry it in her pocketbook!!)

Perhaps, she'd prefer the IV. I'm thinking of getting the VII and not telling my wife since the VII looks similar to my ol' III.

Good luck with that!

I always question the motivation for purchasing a “travel camera” we as photographers spent agonizing hours getting the best gear we can get that make great images why when we travel would anyone want to go on vacation to places around the world taking a camera we know won’t/can’t capture as good images as our everyday camera can?

For the same reasons that I would rather take my 35mm film camera rather than my 4X5 Speed Graphic on travel in the good old days.

I do not question the quality in that Sony camera but in my case I would prefer the flexibility of a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses.
Come to think of it, for that price of over $1000 I am sure I can find in the second hand market a camera to my liking with a very good lens.
But that is me.

No argument here and no offense intended.
Except when I travel with my friend and our wives I find that I now take both less and smaller gear so that I can enjoy the trip.
Tours abroad are usually time-constrained and do not always allow for the perfect angle, set-up, waiting until the crowds disperse, etc.
Now, I try to capture the best pic that I can with the camera that I brung, grin.
This translates into actually carrying on conversations with each other and enjoying meals and the sights together.
I still bring home "decent", for me, pics filled with friends, exotic places, and a boat (cruise ship) full of memories.
Simply stated, now I'm free to contribute to our group experience.
As I said, there is no argument here and definitely not a rant. Just age and experience speaking.
Cat, my apologies, I hope that I didn't "hijack" your thread.
Smile,

NOT SO. My Sony HX99v shoots raw. I can get sharp clear 20X30 competition prints. It can equal my D850 in IQ.
Why take gear that just slows you down. When I travel, I want to enjoy myself, I do not need anything more than my pocket Sony, which I can put in a belt pouch and go hands free. I can hold my wife's hand and enjoy myself at the same time. I see a shot, my HX99 comes out, I pop up the wonderful viewfinder, acts like my D850, the zoom is Zeiss 24-750 mm, has a pop up flash that does auto fill flash, a 6 stop HDR and RAW. Please folks, TRAVEL RIGHT, TRAVEL LITE.

Don't you mean the HX90v?

Each yearly update has been "The Best." I just wish they wouldn't delete some features while they add others. Why drop the hot shoe? I like the better zoom range, 24-200 mm. If they cut the price in half, I'd buy one. I think I'll wait for Version X in 2022.

If the price was cut in half there would be nothing to sell. There is a lot of water under the bridge to wait 2 1/2 years.

How does it do in really dim light? I have a Sony RX100-III and it's great in sunny conditions, but crappy in dim lighting where the ISO values climb to 5,000 or higher.

This looks like a great camera, but I need something for DisneyWorld trips when the grandkids are on the inside amusement rides or shows.

The Sony HX99 looks like and is the same size as the Rx 100 series. Only differences as far as I note are a smaller sensor but a much longer zoom. Takes excellent piuctures

For me, the people are part of the scene.

Hi,
I purchased the Sony RX10 IV for a Danube River Cruise in July 2017. It has the same sensor as new the RX100 VII. Here's a low light shot from Dohany Synagogue. I had just begun using the camera on the trip. Flash was not allowed.

Even if flash had been allowed you would have obtained an interior image, because the distance-squared rule would have emphasized nearby objects and diminished the more distance ones.
