Hi there....all I can say is AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY, even tho you were our little sister outfit. Oh by the way I was 101st :twisted:
I found that giving myself assignments helped me a lot in my photography. For example, I went to the zoo for two days and took a lot of photos. I took close up, long shots, blurry shots, bad shots and good shots. I asked some friends what they thought, and some were so nice to say that everything looked nice (yeah right) and some that into detail what they did not like (develop a thick skin). Flowers and macro are now my specialty.

thanks a bunch has been a very warm welcome from all :thumbup:
go to fine art america and look at some of the work the photographers are taking and make plans for taking a walk for some great shots in your area.
Well to start off I would have purchased A Nikon3100 DSLR with the standard 18-105mm lens and upgrade to a faster lens once you got the hang of it.
You can take a picture with anything but you will learn what you need when you just start shooting.
Then Composing the picture is another issue
Once you get good you will get rid of the cool Pix.
Welcome Detective;
I'm an retired cop also, a training sergeant for a town in North Dakota.
If you can take the lens off it's a SLR. The 'D' means digital; all the rest are point and shoot. But there is avast array of point and shoot all the way from entry level to bridge.
Ask questions, I did and then all you have to do is get out of the way 'cause the answers will be coming, some you might not like but probably will be true.
