Hi. welcome from SW Iowa. Lots of good info on this site. Please post some photos soon.
Your in New York right? Go to B&H photo in NY. Very helpful ppl. They will help you get all you need to get going with photo equipment. I have purchased several filters etc. from them.
Sorry to mislead you but I should have said I was on the job in New York City but I live on Long Island about the Middle. A town called Smithtown..Sorry about that..
Thanks for the welcome. I will post some photos as soon as I think I have something of Interest or quality...I am still learning what and when to shoot
"What else do I need"
You need a camera, eye, a index finger and something to point the camera at. That gets you started.
Just start shooting, get familiar with the camera. Follow the posts on here, ask questions (they will be answered) and learn.

http://www.bhphotovideo.comThe secret to great pictures is to take a lot of them...Have fun
please don't think this is a stupid question but I am not entirely sure of the difference between a digital SLR and a point and shoot....pleas take pity on an neophyte camera man
Welcome Jon...glad to have ya join. Peruse the topics...lots of info available.
You have the desire...now act on it. Shoot everything in sight and you will get a feel for what you like and then it will help you decide what equipment to get. I also live on Long Island and use the Cameta Camera Store in Amityville. ..Best selections, competitive prices and most of all knowledgeable people. Good luck! Ask for Steve Sandik.
Thanx for the info...I am really appreciative of the help...As a retired Homicide Dect I can tell you a lot about a crime scene and just what we would need to take pictures of. Thanx again..
