Steve, doesn't the AF-C Priority Selection have to be set to <Release> as well instead of <Focus> to prevent the shutter button from trying to set focus? That's the way I have my D7100 set up.

Sort of :)

Yes, it should be set to "Release" but not for that reason. On some bodies, if it's not set to Release, if you recompose and the active AF point isn't over something in focus, the camera won't fire. With Release it will - and it's set that way by default from Nikon.

I am using BBF successfully. Wondering though if I use Nikon (wired) remote release will BBF still function properly (i.e. remote release will not cause refocusing)?

That's correct. The button will mimic what the shutter release does, so if you don't have the shutter release set for AF, the cable release won't activate AF either.

Do these BBF changes affect the VR capabilities?

Nope, works the same on the D7500 and most modern Nikons.*

(*On older Nikons, you still had to half-press the shutter release to activate - the D7500 will active VR with the AF-On button).

But for a stationary subject you only press the AF=on button once. Then you have time to compose. Does the VR stay on anyway?

As long as you have a half-press on the shutter release it will.
