I am trying to set up back button focusing on my D7500 camera. I managed to get the AE-L back button to focus but am having trouble getting the shutter button not to focus when pressed half way. I've been on line trying to find a solution without any success. I succeeded in this with my D3400 but this D7500 is different. Can anyone help me?

Google "Setting bbf on d7500".

Under A6 in custom settings menu, select AF ON only, under f1 in custom settings menu assign which button is used for AF, Fn1, Fn2, or AE-L AF-L lock. (Page 88, 106 in D7500 menu guide)

Check his book: http://backcountrygallery.com/secrets-nikon-autofocus-system/, page 53, as well as his site for BBF on Nikon bodies. http://backcountrygallery.com/

Under custom setting A6, make sure it's set to AF-On Only

That should keep AF off the shutter button :)

Hi now I am confused as i thought i was shooting BBF but thinking not :( I had my shutter/AF-ON) I changed that setting to the AF-ON only but can`t get to focus, went to f1 and thought i had the AE-L AF-L button assigned but the Fn-1 was highlighted so i went to the AE-L AF-L under f1 on left side highlighted it pressed ok then 2 choices FV lock or none I know I am missing something but not sure what?

Below are screen shots of how both settings should appear on the D7500 for BBAF. You may have to scroll thought the menu for AE/AF-L to see the option.

Steve, I have the settings put in the d7500 as you have shown. But when I press the shutter button half way, the camera still autofocuses.

Steve, doesn't the AF-C Priority Selection have to be set to <Release> as well instead of <Focus> to prevent the shutter button from trying to set focus? That's the way I have my D7100 set up.

Double check A6 and make sure it's set as shown. Also, this may not work if the camera is in full Auto mode (not sure, I don't have my D7500 with me at the moment)
