One of my Mother's favorite stories was as young girl in Traverse City, Michigan and how she went for a ride in one of these. This was her first experience with an airplane and the thing she remembered the most about the flight was being able to see Grand Traverse Bay going by the plane through the hole in the floor. Guess that was before the NTSB and safety regulations

Wonder, who was the first having this idea?
Was it German Ju52 or Tri-motor Ford?

I flew in a Ford Tri-Motor a couple years ago. The pilot pointed out to us that everybody had a window seat and everybody had an aisle seat.

Nice set of photos of a plane with real engines. I love the sound of radials and Merlin and Allison V-12s.

Great photos. This plane was at the airport in Idaho Falls, ID but I was unable to take a look at it. I did see it flying over my house a few times. It sounds like a Harley to me. Beautiful aircraft. I am glad you got to see it and take a ride. I love the older aircraft with radial engines.

A Harley? The one I heard sounded like a whole gang of Harley's.

Nice Set! I had to honor to overhaul all three engines off of a Ford Tri-Motor in the 1970-1973 time frame. Great engines, but the cylinder cooling fins were very hard on the knuckles of your hands. Still have the scars.

There is a Ford TriMotor presently in our area (Central Oregon) doing flights in the region. Advance tickets are $72, and walkup are $77.00
