The two images shown are not the same. The second one has EN-EL15b marked on it.
I might be interested in just how B&H orders from Nikon but still gets fake batteries.
I might understand it better if the B&H batteries were ordered overseas though.

This is disappointing, hearing B&H selling counterfeit batteries, I bought EN-EL14A batteries a while back and they were A-OK. I use these in my Nikon D3300, no issues as yet.

They did not intentionally sell counterfeit batteries. Don’t spread misinformation.

them at the pixel level, and every detail is exactly
rendered the same, pixel-for-pixel.

If expertly photographing two matching items
under precise, highly controlled conditions, such
an exact pixel-for-pixel match is not in the realm
of reality.

My BS detector is registering above midrange.

Me thinks your BS detector is running on over load, I could see the difference in the thumbnail images with my tire old eyes.

B&H has apparently been selling counterfeit Nikon EN-EL15b batteries for several months now. These batteries did NOT come from Nikon but from and outside counterfeit source and sold by B&H as genuine Nikon products. These batteries are failing and have been reported to have caused a few camera failures! If you bought stand-alone Nikon EN-EL15b batteries from B&H quit using them immediately and notify B&H. They have sent out thousands of emails to know customers offering genuine Nikon batteries as replacements and advised customers to immediately and properly recycle these counterfeit batteries. Several websites such as Nikonrumors.com and petapixel.com have picked up on this issue and have posted stories on them as well as B&H's email notifications.

These batteries are currently back-ordered from Nikon due to the high quantity purchase from B&H for genuine replacement products.

Good for B & H. Nikon has backorders because of one store? How many did they purchase?

So the conterfeit has the model # on it and the genuine does not. It seems it should be the other way around. China, gotta love em for their sloppy research.

Perhaps you should put your glasses on and look again, definitely NOT the same images. Both supplied directly from Nikon.

Did you not read that B&H sent out notices acknowledging the fact that these were counterfeit batteries and are offering true Nikon batteries as replacements and to recycle the fake ones. Seems true to me.

In looking at these photos I find that the fake shows extra printing on the battery. It shows EN-EL 15B on the battery where the one shown as genuine does not.

My question is ...if you order from Nikon how do you get bootleg batteries? And who did you pay for the bootleg batteries? B &H does sell 3rd party batteries which do work just as good as OEM batteries, as seen in past posts on this forum.
Did Nikon try and slip one over on B&H to boost prophets or did B & H buy bootleg batteries and get a bad batch and decide best practice would be to replace with genuine Nikon ?

I wonder how B&H got the counterfeit batteries. Although Nikon doesn't make the batteries wouldn't B&H order them from Nikon?
Sorry my question is the same as the post above.

This might be a dumb question, why does Nikon, (and Canon for that fact), have to make a camera that needs a special battery in the first place?

After all, correct electrical power is correct electrical power. My Pentax will run on Lithium or AA batteries without a problem.

My guess is
1. They can design the size and shape of the battery to fit well with their camera design.
2. They can sell the battery for good profit.

Two important facts not in dispute...

Counterfeit batteries entered the distribution channel.

B&H will replace any Nikon battery purchased in that time frame, regardless of manufacturer. Truly the high road of customer service.

That is the real story here.

AND

The thread is drifting to "Nikon supplied both batteries", however, I believe the statement that "Nikon supplied both" refers to the 2 pictures, Not the batteries, so get critical when evaluating what is meant in postings.
