B&H has apparently been selling counterfeit Nikon EN-EL15b batteries for several months now. These batteries did NOT come from Nikon but from and outside counterfeit source and sold by B&H as genuine Nikon products. These batteries are failing and have been reported to have caused a few camera failures! If you bought stand-alone Nikon EN-EL15b batteries from B&H quit using them immediately and notify B&H. They have sent out thousands of emails to know customers offering genuine Nikon batteries as replacements and advised customers to immediately and properly recycle these counterfeit batteries. Several websites such as Nikonrumors.com and petapixel.com have picked up on this issue and have posted stories on them as well as B&H's email notifications.

These batteries are currently back-ordered from Nikon due to the high quantity purchase from B&H for genuine replacement products.

I think it's worth noting that B&H did the right thing when they discovered what had happened.

This is disappointing, hearing B&H selling counterfeit batteries, I bought EN-EL14A batteries a while back and they were A-OK. I use these in my Nikon D3300, no issues as yet.

Again, as MT said in his original post, "They have sent out thousands of emails to know customers offering genuine Nikon batteries as replacements and advised customers to immediately and properly recycle these counterfeit batteries. "

It is interesting to me that the two posted photos,
"Genuine" and "Fake", are actually the very same
image, and therefor the very same battery pack
... whether real or fake regardless. I've inspected
them at the pixel level, and every detail is exactly
rendered the same, pixel-for-pixel.

If expertly photographing two matching items
under precise, highly controlled conditions, such
an exact pixel-for-pixel match is not in the realm
of reality.

My BS detector is registering above midrange.

Nope. They look so well matched that I
went right to the pixel level inspection.

But thank you. I understand now that
the photos are only for illustrative and
informational communication, thus no
harm in starting with one image and
then retouching it to illustrate what a
buyer need to watch for.

Perhaps you should put your glasses on and look again, definitely NOT the same images. Both supplied directly from Nikon.

Actually, they are both the same
identical image except that one
has been retouched to erase the
model number.

I have no reason to doubt that
they are both supplied directly
from Nikon.

As close in detail as the counterfeit battery is, how did the counterfeiters miss the model number and color, two dead giveaways.

Buyers don't see what's inside the boxes, only salesmans samples, which would likely be genuine.
But the first clue SHOULD have been Nikon products coming from a non-Nikon source.

They are also different colors. The bottom one is a darker charcoal grey, the one above it is a much lighter grey.
