Paul - This sentence is incredibly stupid. Why, if the camera was “grossly overpriced” should my efforts to give it away been wrong? For an extremely smart fellow, that is a really dumb thing to say. Do you think I should give it away on eBay? Why should I go to that trouble if it is only worth 5¢? My remaining two digital cameras will be sold for 30¢ on the dollar. Cameras are dead, the cellphone is king! That is my last word on the matter.

I think you missed my point ... If you can't even give it away as charity, why are you disappointed there wasn't a market for the equipment at $200? Clearly, you're frustrated as my comment wasn't intended to add to that frustration ...

looks like a nice camera, my 19 year old granddaughter uses my old AE-1,(with duct tape around the back to keep light out as gasket is shot) I don't know what the difference is from a AE-1 program, but there are still some young ones willing to learn, the biggest problem is the cost of developing the film. Hopefully you find a home for it.

I had an AE-1 at a KEH buying event in Chicago in Feb of this year. They paid $15 for the FD lens. Wouldn't take the body.

I once owned a Canon Elan 2e, 24-70 (or something close), plus a 75-300. Both lens were variable aperture. I could hardly give them away until a friend mentioned his son was taking a film based photography course at Uni of Conn. I didn’t get but a tiny fraction of the original price paid, but the camera and lenses did live on. Before you toss, consider Craigslist or eBay. There’s life out there.

In late April I posted this Canon outfit with the very reasonable price of $269.00 including USPS shipping within CONUS. My original total cost of assembling the outfit was $360.00. As of this evening, 766 UHH members have viewed it, but no one has been compelled to express interest or make more than a lowball offer. My offer of TCTNW (the camera that nobody wanted) will be withdrawn and the camera destroyed. Have a nice evening. /Ralph J. Wallace

Sucks big time when you cannot even give the stuff away. I have a Nikon FG and a Nikon N70 that I, too, found out I could not sell for much of anything. Sadly, time makes electronics dispensable. I still have the bodies in a plastic covered bin in a closet. I have a real problem throwing them in the trash. Eventually I probably will. Hang in there, I am sorry that your health has you in a place where you cannot enjoy something that seems to have given you so much joy.

An eBay Auction might work better for you Ralph. Good luck!
You might want to explore this option if you haven't already. I tried selling a Canon AE-1 on UHH with the same results you had. Not many people on UHH aren't interested in old film cameras. Look at all the posts about the latest Nikon, Canon or Olympia cameras. They're quick to tell us about the UPS truck with their newest purchase. We don't hear about that old Nikon somebody bought at an estate sale. I wound up posting my camera on Ebay and sold it there. Plus your exposure (no pun intended) on Ebay will be a lot greater than on UHH. But I wasn't asking anywhere near $279 for the outfit.

Rjaywallace: Canon AE-1 Program is one dam good camera, BUT It does not command high price. I had one with two lens got $75.00 for it, back around Xmas time last year. It a funny market out there, just hold on. Don't give it away, hell I pay for shipping it to me. Why did I sell it, Xmas money. Unfortunately what EdJ0307 wrote is very true "UHH people aren't interested in old film camera."

Your desire to destroy the camera rather than sell for less (or even give it away) causes me to think you are stupid or a crook.

Really, stupid or a crook? This is exactly why some are reluctant to post on this site.

Ralph,

Please consider donating to this group or one like it. Check out their website:

http://www.kidsinfocus.org/

Their mission:

"Kids in Focus programs inspire hope in children ages 10-14 who come from backgrounds of poverty, homelessness, neglect and/or abuse.

The kids receive much more than a camera. Mentored by professional photographers, together they take a journey of creativity culminating in a public photography exhibit, a hardbound book, and a new self-confidence for the future. The program empowers the kids to explore, to trust and to see the world in a new light."

Good luck to you,

Bob

Ralph, don’t destroy it. Give it to some deserving kid. Or take it to a shop associated with a charity: battered women, a local church, something like that.

My granddaughter is studying photography in high school. They shoot strictly film. She's using a Pentax K1000 I gave her for that purpose. Check with local schools - someone may be glad to have it.
