NOTE - Having been badly maligned and withdrawn this beautiful film camera outfit complete with two fast lenses, all accessories, case, film and batteries was SOLD for a mutually satisfying price on 5/29/19 to a collector/photo enthusiast in Texas.

In late April I posted this Canon outfit with the very reasonable price of $269.00 including USPS shipping within CONUS. My original total cost of assembling the outfit was $360.00. As of this evening, over 1,630 UHH members viewed it, but no one at UHH was compelled to express interest or make more than a lowball offer. /Ralph J. Wallace

Ralph, don’t destroy it. Give it to some deserving kid. Or take it to a shop associated with a charity: battered women, a local church, something like that.

You are free to do with your property as you see fit, but your expressed intent to destroy it because no one bit on your offer is ridiculous. You didn't get any interest because your price is out of line with the value. See https://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Canon/Canon-AE-1-program.html.

Your camera and lenses can be bought all week long for $100 or less, the accessories and some value of course, but your price was pretty much double market value so it would be nearly impossible to attract a buyer in a forum like this one where a large percentage of members have more than a passing knowledge of gear value.
This fact holds true for any product priced over market, as evidenced every day on Ebay where sellers are always hoping to snag a gullible, uninformed buyer.
Its your gear and you can throw it away or do with it what you want, but destroying a working outfit because of sour grapes seems pretty pointless to me.

Don't destroy a good camera, give it away to some deserving kid or a charity. I suggest that a good acumen and self respect will rule the day. Sour grapes will not.

Based on your posts you have always seemed to be a good-hearted person. I tried donating the camera free of charge in five separate ways:
1) Living near the dominant Menominee Indian tribal reservation, I contacted an art teacher and two school board presidents at the middle school/high school in Keshena, WI. None of the individuals responded. They didn’t turn the friendly offer down; they ignored it outright.
2) I contacted a contacted a Menominee art counselor/social worker who works at reservation schools in Neopit, WI. She suggested the art teacher mentioned above and one student artist. Via the counselor, I offered the equipment as a gift free of any charge. There was no response from the student. The counselor believes the student wanted more modern photo equipment she could use to post images on social media.
3) I contacted a good friend who, tho not being a tribal member, works in Keshena. He suggested the art teacher and a young person who he thought might be interested. The young man was very hesitant and eventually turned the offer down.

In the current era, cameras - as you and I know them - are dead. They have no market value at all. The cellphone camera is now king. I used Nikon, Canon and Polaroid film cameras for many years. Started to get into digital photography, but health issues have made using the gear very difficult. I always thought I could sell high quality cameras, but that seems less and less true these days. I refuse to sell them as toys on eBay. So throwing them away is the best option. Thank you for asking.

Here is my problem with what you are saying: No one at UHH who looked at the offer responded with any interest or offered to buy the equipment at a lower price. There was no response at all.

While a great camera in its day the original cost it irrelevant today. just like all my 35mm stuff, It's a paperweight.
Just give it away it might make you feel better.

Good Morning Ralph

Why don't you teach a young men photography? How to take pictures and develop film?

Things are only with what someone will pay for it. At this point I would put it on eBay on auction starting at 100.00 and see if you get some bids. There are a lot of people that still want to shoot film. They just don’t happen to be looking for your Canon here on UUH right now.

A quote from a Hedgehogger "good-hearted person"! Since where all good-hearted Hedgehoggers, why don't we all help Ralph out and send him $5.00 to $10.00? We all don't know what's going on financially with him? Ralph, don't destroy the camera. I will start the ball rolling, by sending $5.00 or $10.00.

An eBay Auction might work better for you Ralph. Good luck!

Ralph, I would say it was out of respect that no one marred your post with a bunch of negative comments / replies. That's actually an unusual event and amount of restraint for UHH. I looked at your post last night and maybe even the original for-sale post. I remember having much the same thoughts as MT and simply moved on. Your experience trying to give the camera away should have alerted you that your $200+ asking price was grossly overpriced, at least by 2x and maybe by 4x. But, your decision to discard rather than to offer for an auction on ebay is yours alone.

I'll make an offer of paying shipping on the undestroyed camera and lens, then I'll try to figure out if I want to explore film again. Seriously

“Your experience trying to give the camera away should have alerted you that your $200+ asking price was grossly overpriced, at least by 2x and maybe by 4x.“

Paul - This sentence is incredibly stupid. Why, if the camera was “grossly overpriced” should my efforts to give it away have worked out badly? For an extremely smart fellow, that is a really dumb thing to say. Do you think I should auction it on eBay? Why should I go to that trouble if it is only worth, as everyone says, 5¢? My remaining two digital cameras will be sold for 30¢ on the dollar. Cameras are dead, the cellphone is king! That is my last word on the matter.
