It seems the one constant in life is change…
And because of the Adobe uncertainties floating about I started investigating other options. I considered (and played with) Corel Paintshop Pro, Aftershot 3, Affinity, and On1 Raw 2019.
Each piece of software has its own strengths and I suppose weaknesses. My problem is that I learned post processing on Adobe products, so I’ve develop some personal “I like to do it this way” stuff.
So, based on the criteria of “I like to do it this way” I’ve landed on ON1 Raw for processing raw photos, Affinity as an option for more creative scenarios, and Corel Paintshop Pro as an alternative for more graphic design stuff.
On1 Raw is powerful! And user friendly for an ex-Lightroom guy. And much much much more versatile than Lightroom.
Alas, there will be a learning curve, but that’s consistent with the constant of change.
Anyway, to finish the inauguration of this modification in my photography life – here is my first post processed image from On1 Raw.
Thanks for looking!
Looks very good to me! The color is good, and the flowers are sharp.
Very nice. I really like On1. I use it every day.

I think it was a good choice.
Thanks!
Yes, a nicely done image.
You raise an interesting point though - will Adobe make life more difficult for those that just use the photography CC apps? They have just sent me an offer for the whole suite of creative apps - and the cost will be three times what I currently pay, even at offer price. I’m not interested in that but would like to continue as I am. Am I doomed?
Nice work!
I am finding the same thing about ON1.
After importing into Lightroom, I almost always send images to ON 1 for further processing.
An ambitious undertaking, it sounds, but with terrific results already. Looking forward to hearing more as your journey progresses. Thanks, Claud!

When I canceled my Adobe subscription they asked why, then said it would cost $20 a month to return to them. So I assume prices will increase.
On1 appears to be an excellent Lightroom replacement. It's more robust and uses similiar keyboard shortcuts. You can do layer work, and filters, and much much more in On1.
It's a good decision for me.

On1 has a thirty day free trial period.
On1 technology is pretty robust!

There, as always, is a learning curve.

Does this change mean you are moving your photo files to an On1 file system and does that mean you lose your cat file edits? Will you reserve your edited images so you don't lose the edits. I have wondered about this and have a trial On1 version to play with.

Please elaborate on these two comments. How different would the posted picture looked had it been done in LR? Why exactly did you look to replace LR?
