Herb and Tom, the link provided in this post is for the windows download. Go to Sony.com for the Mac version.

I did the firmware upgrade as soon as I read this thread. I must confess that I haven't tried it out to see if anything is noticeable. I've done an earlier FW upgrade and had no problems so I reckon I trust Sony. I probably don't have any of the lenses mentioned but hopefully I'll appreciate some of the other attributes of the upgrade.

See Brian Smith's recommendations / tips for upgrading Sony firmware. I have heard of folks 'bricking' their Sony's during upgrades. The fine print in the Sony warranty excludes software problems.

It worked well for me, and fixed some problems I was having with stability of settings. Good job, Sony!

I did it and did not loose any settings, but cannot tell the difference yet. used it for many picks last night and all went well. install was simple with no issues. i was on version 1 and am now on 3.21. it does turn on faster. will do more auto focus tests with different lenses this weekend.

The Sony website instruction and Brian Smith's site both say that the firmware upgrade should be installed using the Sony data cable. Smith says to use the Sony cable which I do not have. Can I use any data cable or is it possible to transfer the upgrade from a memory SD card?

A data cable is a data cable, so not having the Sony one will not matter.
