Can anyone tell me how I can download pics from a compact flash card to the new ipad without using my Canon 7D? I'm told I need a powered flash drive. What is it?
jplosko, I know you are hesitant in using your camera to download pictures onto your iPad but I think rwdaley had the best and simplest answer to your question when he suggested using the power/transfer cord from your camera along with the iPad connector. I hope you will find a solution because I believe the iPad is an excellent way to view your pictures. The size is perfect and the quality is outstanding. This was the main reason I bought my iPad. Good luck.
I have another work around. Buy a CF to SD ADAPTOR. Have one, works great with the SD card reader that comes with the camera kit. And SD cards are cheaper. AND...they fit in m computer side slot, too.

You will need to have the images in .JPG form as the iPad will not read camera RAW information.
This is simply incorrect. I transfer RAW images from my Nikon to my iPad all the time and then post process them with an app called Snapseed. ;)

That would work if you can tolerate with the slower write speeds of SD cards.
-lois- I like your idea, but I can't find a CF to SD adapter. I DO find SD to CF adapters. Can you direct me to a CF to SD addapter. Thanks
Jim
I think she was referring to a cf size adaptor in which you insert a sd card.

Its not slow enough that I even notice it.

I got mine on eBay - about $20. Been using it for about 2 months and love being able to pop it in to my computer without getting the card reader out....and the iPad connector, too!
CF Card to New IPAD, A few days ago I opened a can of worms about downloading a CF card to the New Ipad. I got a lot of advice from people that was of no use except for using my power cable from the 7D to the new Ipad. I also heard from many of you that shared the same problem that also wanted help. Well this is too let you know that I got a CF card reader that works for me. No cables. It looks like the Apple SD reader except for CF card. Here is what I got from Amazon: "CF Card Reader CF1 CF II Connection Kit For APPLE The New iPad 3rd" cost $18.59 PS. I had to take the Ipad out of the case to insert the card reader.
I love you jplosko! I shall order when I get home from work.

I have a card reader for my CF card and a usb adaptor for the iPad' bu when I connect them, I get a message that there is not enough power to operate the card. My iPad is a 3, I dont know if a later model will give the same error.
Thanks dparker, If you are a single woman, be careful with that love stuff. I'm a widower. Just kidding, hope it works for you also. The reason why I had to take the Ipad out of the case was because reader is bigger than the opening in my case

I and many other have the same problem reading a CF card with a card reader thru the usb port, "not enough Power", This one works great for me.
This new CF card reader that I got for the IPAD says that it only works in a "DCIM" folder. I don't know what it is talking about, but apparently mine sre brcause it reads the flash card. Maybe someone can help me with what it is or how to get a "DCIM " folder if need be.
