Hi . I love the detail you managed to capture on the wings in shot no 2. What lens did you have on and what settings please/

Cheers Washy and thanks for looking it's appreciated. The settings and camera/lens i used on that shot where as follows...
Sony a550
Sigma 150-500mm lens
fstop f/7.1
Exosure 1/1250
iso 200
Focal length 150mm.
All these where shot hand held and in auto, you wont get 100% with all your shots but with practice you will improve. The best way i can explain is to pretend your shooting a rifle, with your viewfinder being the sights.Panning the BIF is is important so keep the bird in a central position.Press your shutter halfway then fire away when you think you've got the bird in focus.Practice is the key word and dont get disheartened if you dont get every shot spot on it will never happen.I 've said it on here before if you can manage 1 shot out of 20 at first your on your way and you WILL improve with practice.. Try to pick a sunny day the extra light helps a lot.Hope this helps. Jim

Good work! Like #4. would suggest a crop on 4 around the birds. It has the potential of being really stunning .

You did a great job on this! I'd be very proud if I could have done as well. Don't think I could do anything to improve it beyond what you have.

yes thanks. Mine was sharp but it got dropped in France in October. I am taking to get it checked at Sigma in Welyn Garden City next week hopefully. Still works but I think something may have been misaligned. Going to Morroco in 4 weeks on a 10 bird/landscaping holiday, so the big sig will have to be right for that. I'm told one can see 200 different bird species and sometimes hundreds of some species. regards washy

Great stuff angler. All fantasic shots, however it's interesting that we all have different viewpoints. I actually favour No. 1, as IMHO, the out of focus buildings really place the bird in it's semi-urban looking environment. The downward facing aspect adds to the interest and I find myself, although looking at the buildings, always drawn back to the bird wondering if it's heading for a landing. Probably my foolish old mind working overtime!! Anyway, thanks.....more please. (BTW, hit 'download' on these if you already haven't..... mind numbing).
