Watch on SanDisk SSD's late last year there was a problem with some of them and a lawsuit was also filed.

That's discouraging. Maybe I should buy one of those Aiowkey brands I see that are so cheap. 😁

Read the reviews. Make sure it’s a ssd drive. Last summer, I was looking for a ssd drive and was set to buy a SanDisc. After reading the reviews, I wound up buying a Samsung instead.

You can look at BackBlaze reports on disk failures and buy a HDD based on that. Then, you buy an enclosure for it, and you have a pretty good chance to get reliability. Of course, people prefer smaller external drives these days. I use mostly SSDs for externals now. An M.2 card is perfect for that.

It seems the key to longevity is heat dissipation. If you have an SSD, or m.2 NVMe drive, it needs a heat sink or metal case or both. If all you are doing is saving Word files and other office documents, any of them is fine, but if you work with audio, video, or hundreds of large still images, heat dissipation becomes an issue.

My guess is stock on hand/inventory, but I can tell you from experience that their "sales" are kind of willy-nilly. I get the daily flyer and often go to check an item of interest to discover that while the pink or orange versions are the only ones on sale while all the other colors are still at the regular price. As mentioned by others, check several outlets before you assume that the B&H price is the best available. Also mentioned elsewhere, an advantage to Walmart/Target/Staples is that you can get it delivered to your door and if there's a problem, return it to a store. Having said all that, you still won't go far wrong with B&H.

I would just skip it without reading the following article, but it may interest you if you had any slight intention of sending them money:

Thanks for the article.

I am no stranger to websites like this. Unfortunately, mainly from experience.

Recently I bought an extremely large SSD drive from a vendor. The drive arrived. I use a Mac so I tried to format it for the MacBook Pro. It wouldn't format no matter what.

I emailed them and they emailed back saying it does not work with the Mac O/S and that it was in the "fine print". Well actually, it was in the "what's included" section not the "Specifications".

I told them they misrepresented the product. That putting it in the what's included is not the place to put that it does not work on Mac O/S.

They ended up agreeing but first, offered me a discount on one of their other products which I did not need. In the end, they issued me a refund.

So yes, beware, it its too good to be true, it is.

Right! I keep an eye on temperature, and if a drive starts going much over 100° F, I stop the copying for a while. Even with external HDDs in a "fanned" enclosure, the temperature will keep rising while it's working.

I have both a Samsung T5 and T7 for many years. Both excellent. B&H has the 2TB version of the T7 on sale right now for $165. Best of luck.

On a separate but related issue, I ask Trix if the Samsung T7 can interface with a USB 3.0 PORT.
Thank you.

I have T7s. They came with very short USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cables. They’re compatible with all current USB ports from 2.0 to 4.0. No worries…

I know I'm not TRIX, but YES the T7 that I was looking at on B&H 2TB for $165 does. Best of luck.

It depends on the inventory. 1 TB's were the most popular sizes before prices came down. Prices on all SSD drives are going back up in the next few months. The production is being cut on those chips to try and bring prices back up. I upgraded my 9 drive NAS to 2tb SSD's and the HDD's to 10 TB. I still have a cloud account to keep all of my code that wrote for some projects, stuff that I scanned in that were important documents from 50 years ago and photos.
