But, as you say, a few precautions are probably a good idea. For one, we'll try to keep the device away from highly combustible materials while it's charging.
This may seem over the top, but putting the device being charged in a Pyrex dish and maybe a foot away from flammable materials is probably good insurance. When I mentioned this fire on the forum a year or so when it happened, 2 RC flyers who use and charge LiPos chimed in with several incidents in their club including a garage fire and a house fire caused by the charger overcharging the batteries.
