The ADA says that a seniors or disabled an electric mobility scooter* can go anywhere pedestrians can legally go providing it fits, and it is safe to do so.

*In October I bought an ADA spec three-wheel, CA street legal mobility scooter that can do 50kph (31.9mph) and the new speed limit for seniors/disabled on public streets here in CA is now 30mph. It can legally go on streets with a limit below 35 in my town, and those streets with higher limits it can use the bike lanes.

The state says it can't go on sidewalks but our local PD says they prefer I go on sidewalks as I give pedestrians the right away and keep the speed at 8 mph or lower. Something about less chance of having to scrape me off a front bumper.

This thing is FUN! I could have gotten one for about the same cost ($3695+tax) or a bit less with either 3 wheels or 4 wheel independent suspension and the tires and shocks designed for off-road but with a speed limit of 15mph. That company won't remove the speed limiter/governor, but the local scooter repair guy says he can do it, just wait until the warranty runs out, or it will cancel the warranty. Those off-road models can then do 25+mph, he says, depends on the weight of the rider and if the ground is flat and smooth.

But he might have to re-arrange the house to use it.

Um... He was referring to the wireless mouse, not the computer.
Does anyone even make a desktop that has/requires a battery?????

Some desktop battery (for the clock) when it's bad the computer doesn't work. Most will work but some doesn't. I ran into some like that.

Interesting. In 40 years I've never had a backup battery go bad. Been through a few computers during that time also. My longest lasting computer, and it still worked just fine when I powered it down, was 12 years.

Most people would probably have to. Unless you have one of those "Open plan" homes with ultra-wide instead of regular size doors and lots of floor space in each room without a ton of furniture.
They make smaller ones for indoors and of course electric wheelchairs or power chairs like the Hoveround brand. Hoveround makes 7 different powered chair types and 16 different mobility scooters including one heavy duty off-road model and most of their others will handle parks, golf courses and well maintained hiking trails.

But one still has to bend over to get stuff that is on the floor.
Unless one has one of those 3 foot picker-upper thingies.

I believe he is talking about the little button batteries that some motherboards use to run the clock for when the computer is powered down.
Some, in fact I believe almost all computers will not boot if that battery is dead since time synchronization is critical for many tasks and on line sites, esp download site.

Between the wife and I we have about 5 of different types, sizes and even magnetic ones. Those are great for small screws etc. which just love to run and jump off desks and work tables while yelling WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Do you know that dogs and cats get pissed off if a large screw or bolt bounces off their head?

That's what I was referring to also, the only battery in a desktop. The clock backup battery.
Can't comment on whether a computer will start or not, I never had one go bad (or removed one) in 40 years.
My last computer was 12 years old and still working when I replaced it.

I have this one computer that I built for the company I worked for. I built 4 of them and 3 of them had no problem. One of them keeps running out of battery and everytime it does that it switch the video output from the VGA port (which I used) to the DVI port. Changing the battery and try to go into the setup program and you can't because when in setup it switches to a video mode which only a few monitors can support. So I would then have to dragout that 1 monitor I have set it up and then reconnect the original monitor and it works fine until the next time it run out of battery. I think there is some kind of short that drains the battery.

The battery issue I had was with the mouse. Simple - just needed new ones.
Your battery dilemma is ugly!! Good luck,

As posted last week, I had to reinstall Win 11 and recover all my settings, data and apps. At this point I believe full recovery and restore are 95% complete. My mouse has been a bit erratic, so I visited Win 11 mouse settings. I played with a few settings for a couple of days, but the behavior was still slow and erratic. About 15 minutes ago I decided to DUH - CHANGE THE BATTERIES! I had erroneously assumed the reinstallation of the OS was the cause of the weird behavior. Voila!! Think simple first!

I have an excuse I can use - I just had my 87th birthday last week. Thinking simply is not automatic!!
My mouse and I wish you a wonderful day!

I won't tell.
I'm 86 and have a whole list of things that are no longer automatic!!!
