Think about it; wouldn't an airbag recall involve many cars rather than just a few? This would certainly generate a lot of work over a period of time. Sometimes there are so many cars involved(not just one make) that all the parts needed are not immediately available. If the fix is is not too involved, it can be a money maker for the tech. I remember and was heavily involved in the big Pinto gas tank recall many years ago. It seemed like we never ran out of them! So many of those that we became quite skilled on them & made decent money on repairs because of the time involved being less of a factor in so many repairs.

Lots of people don't like the belts against their body and try to defeat the latches. Unfortunately you are only TRULY protected if the belts are snug before you crash. Like the falling elevator, you can't react just before the crash.

Ford use to do a lot of accident investigations with several state highway police departments. On on occasion a trooper in a Crown Victoria was involved in a head on crash with a suspect driving a pick-up truck. The accident investigation indicated a combined equivalent speed in excess of 130 mph. The trooper was belted and his air bag deployed leaving him with heavy bruising in the area of the belt/ shoulder strap surviving the crash to return to work a week or so later. The suspect's remains were found on the trunk of the Crown Victoria after going through the windshield of the pick-up ,bouncing off the hood and windshield, and then removing the light bar on top of the police car.

10 and 2 position when gripping wheel will break thumbs when bag goes off. 9 and 3 position, grip with fingers and rest thumbs on top of wheel. (Driving instructor info).

Yep, and BTW, F1 drivers (if they remember) let go of the steering wheel in a crash. One driver this year didn’t and ended up with a broken hand.
