I finally get my laptop back.

My Lenovo P1 Gen4 laptop finally came back from service last night. I am glad I had the warranty because they replaced almost everything. They replaced the LCD, The motherboard, The top cover including the keyboard. It looks like new. It also came back with the original Windows 10. I have to upgrade it to Windows 11 and then reinstall all the software. I guess it would take me about a week to complete all that.

My kind of service, they just sent you a new one. I guess you could call that replacing all the components!

Yea, changing computers for me takes a week or two to get everything re-aligned.
The second week is just here and there final tweaking.
I dislike changing computers. My last laptop and desktop each were about 10 years old.
But got forced into it because some applications no longer supported Win 7......

Sounds like they took your serial number tag & put it on a new one. Probably easier & faster 7 cheaper for them. Anyway, glad it worked out good for you.

No actually the bottom cover was the same one as it has the worn out serial number sticker. In fact I can't read the serial number any more I have to go into the bios setup to get the number. It took them almost 2 weeks.

I seriously doubt someone worked on it for 8 hours a day for days.

The whole time was about 2 or 3 days that they reported they checking it for problem, fixing it and testing it afterward. I think the total actually time a tech working on it would be less than 8 hours. But I think they did fix it and not simply swap the computer. I believe the Lenovo repair depot isn't Lenovo but rather an outfit contracted by Lenovo and thus they don't care if it actually cost Lenovo more by fixing it and charging the time. If they simply swap it they would have very little labor cost and the new computer would simply comes from Lenovo.

Yes I do know that. I like Lenovo because it's a real Chinese company rather than buying from an American company like Dell but they make their products in China. And yes my laptop is a Thinkpad (an IBM trademark).

Two things that I hate: changing computers and changing pickup trucks! Both have taken years to get them the way you want them, and changing them is both time consuming as well as taking a trip down memory lane! Maybe that is why my truck is a 2007 Avalanche, but my computer is a recent Apple MacBook Pro.

Agreed.

Our new desktop came with a 512GB SSD as the system drive (C:) and a 1TB D: HDD.
To conserve space on the SSD I put all the "data", except for important "House" files, on D: (2TB-system drive from the old computer), and I have the 1TB as E: now. I swapped the drive sequence for the 1 and 2 TB drives.)
Hopefully we're good for another 10+ years.

I think I will buy a new desktop next year when MS stops supporting Windows 10.

That's the only reason I replaced our 10 year old desktop computer. Programs (updates) were no longer supporting Win 7....
I probably would have kept it if they did.
Now the two laptops and desktop are Win 11.

My desktop computer is about 13 year old. It came with Windows 7 but I run Windows 10 on it now. Still works quite well. 48GB RAM, Dual CPU with total 8 cores and 16 threads.
